Avios (Hobbyking) 90mm Mig 17 PNP in Black Diamond aerobatic team colours! With Video

Just unboxed my new Mig17 and all I can say is WOW! Perfect condition, no damage to the double boxed PNF kit. Paint and EPO finish is as good or better than any of my FW planes. A 10% discount "thank you" card was a nice touch.
No time to assemble today but it will fly soon enough.
Avios (or HSD?) has a winner here with nothing that can compete at this price point.

I just watched the video Eric, wow is right, looks very nice indeed, decent size too. I really liked my much smaller Mig-17 when I was manufacturing them. Surprisingly, it was a nice stable flier. The price though is a bit much for me though, and my wife would certainly notice the lose of funds from our account.

Re: Avios (Hobbyking) 90mm Mig 17 PNP in Black Diamond aerobatic team colours!

My father doesn’t like the camo but I do... it will first fly with stock colours but we are already looking into alternative schemes. Maybe Indonesian!
As for the cost, I think it is a steal compared to any other PNP 90mm jets. It does come as a kit version for less but the retracts alone are well worth the extra in that the legs have the proper raked forward position when retracted.
You really have to see the model to appreciate the many details Avios has added, without much extra weight or cost.

Re: Avios (Hobbyking) 90mm Mig 17 PNP in Black Diamond aerobatic team colours!

Well JC, the paint can be easily removed, just use masking tape. If the paint is like all the other preprinted foam models, you can just press on masking tape and it will come off cleanly. I have just finished painting the invasion stripes on the Fliteline 1600 mm Spitfire. Even using very light tack tape, the paint would lift off.
You need to use a latex primer first to get a reasonable bond.
I'm so temped

Re: Avios (Hobbyking) 90mm Mig 17 PNP in Black Diamond aerobatic team colours!

I have an old Golden West copy of the Mig-17, basically just the fuselage, canopy, wing and stab patterns. Since going south this winter is off the table due to my medical issues, it might be a winter project. It's bigger than the foam Mig though, so maybe a 100 mm or a 105 mm EDF.
It was meant for a 12 to 18 lb thrust turbine. Of course, I will redesign it much lighter, it's 1/7th scale, 53" wingspan, 63" long.

What did it cost to your door? I’ve never ordered from HK.

Re: Avios (Hobbyking) 90mm Mig 17 PNP in Black Diamond aerobatic team colours!

The cost was approximately $450CDN with exchange and PayPal fees. I was fortunate that shipping was free. I read that some who ordered later were charged shipping but I have also heard HK is again offering free shipping (I don’t know the current status of free shipping). There were some buyers who had a 10% off coupon and also got free shipping but I wasn’t so lucky. Regardless I am pleased with the purchase so far.
Best way to find out is put one in the shopping cart and see what shipping options come up.
