Rolling circle help

Hi guys looking for tips to nail down rolling circles etc. Im a thumb flyer and currently do not use a neck strap. The problem is after about he 4th roller i seem to be unknowingly putting my throttle down untl i have to abandon the maneuver. Sometimes i get half way around my circle before i catch it.
I was practicing with my electric extra so i dont have the engine noise to realize ive moved the throttle down. My "rythum" seems ok until i mess up my timing with throttle.
This is one maneuver that im hoping to master this year so any tips/ tricks would be great!

Re: Rolling circle help

Can you do a regular rolling circle? The reason I'm asking is, you can do a regular one using just aileron and elevator. It's a starting point.

Do 3 consecutive rolls, the increase to 5, then increase to 8 and modify your elevator timing to make it curve by either adding positive elevator earlier or holding it longer.

Once you've gotten comfortable with that then slow it down and add rudder to the controls.

Re: Rolling circle help

Hi Jason,
Just wondering if you mean a rolling harrier? As you know timing is everything and there is no free lunch on this maneuver.

When I first learned it, I did just rudder for awhile then just elevator for while, then I mixed both, it helped me with the timing and the power changes throughout the maneuver.

To be able to steer right or left, rolling harrier loops etc, it took me a good 2-3 seasons. It is not easy but the timing eventually clicks in. Having a good roll rate that is not too slow but not too crazy fast makes a huge difference at the beginning.

The answer is sitting in the bottom of you fuel jug

Will

Re: Rolling circle help

Jason, quit practicing that. You're going to make me look bad enough without mastering that too.

Brendan,

Jason's last post was 4 years ago so I'm sure he's already made you look bad!

Re: Rolling circle help

I missed the posting date Jim.

No harm though, I wan to rattle him as much as possible.

He will be a real contender with an unlimited up-line with his new DLE120 that replaced his DA100.

Going to be interesting to watch his skills progress with the new power at his fingertips.

Maybe you guys can have an unlimited vertical race? Screw the IMAC, just the fastest climb to 1000’ from a dead start.
