My "local" field is MAAC and is a minimum of one hour away. What I mean by that is if I plan ahead and load my airplanes the day before I want to fly I leave from home in the morning and its 1 hour away. If I randomly decide I want to fly its 30 minutes in the opposite direction of the field to get to my shop and load up. Then after loading, another 1.5 hours to the field. To fly the big jets its princeton which is almost 3 hours to get to.

Even prior to all the TC regulations there isn't actually a city in my area where it was legal to fly anything rc in a park or within the city limits. In fact when I lived in red deer alberta it was very similar. MOST cities/towns have for decades had bylaws that prohibit the use of rc flying unless at a designated airpark. The law is always difficult to find, well hidden in the mumble jumble. Many cities do not allow the operation of any rc vehicle in city parks or lakes (aircraft cars or boats).

The truth is what many people now deem unfair has already been illegal for years it just wasn't well known.

They still have a MAAC sanctioned field to fly at. It's their choice to fly elsewhere, because of circumstances. The answer would be yes, in my opinion.

The Soo Modellers have a MAAC airfield.
I'm only 10 min. from the field and have access to "float flying" at the site!

Cecil I heard that the float flying site was haunted by some old guy wading around in his underwear. LOL

It does and is 20 minutes from my house. I am the only remaining local member, last year I re-registered it with the help of one fellow from 2 hours away and one from 3.5 hours away. The facility is excellent in many respects but has fallen into disrepair from 6 years or so of neglect and under usage. 8 years have passed since we have had a formal club meeting(as in 3 members). It would take a lot of hard work and money now to bring it back up to MAAC's expected standards as they have changed a lot in the last 10 or so years.

I am considering pulling up the fence posts, disposing of the club house and turning it back to the town. They have already started to build RV camping stalls on the south end.

That's sad, Merv, why not try to revive it and invite others to join you in flying there.

Re: Do you have a MAAC field vailable to fly at? - Yes/No

Feel your pain Merv Same thing happened to me , just not enough interest in my area so the field went back to farming. Now I'm a weekend flyer and have to drive 1-1/2 hr and hope the conditions favor flying . It's not all bad I have many long time friends at the field .

That my friend is what I have been trying to do for the last 10 years with very limited success. We are drawing on a town population of 1200 here and with so many other things to compete with it's like swimming upstream. The young ones move away when they finish school and the pensioners die off. That seems to be the only two demographics that have time for this hobby. Now with the new TC regs to scare people off...

My gut feeling is that when us old timers that have grown up in this hobby and gone through these changes are finally planted and raising worms no one in their right mind will want to get into a hobby with this extensive of a regulatory quagmire, MAAC or not.

I would love to be proven wrong.

I will give this thread a couple more days to see what more we can get for responses.
