Re: Sig Kobra .25 Perfomance
I have to repair mine, the wing came off in flight, and the plane lawn darted into a farmers field. Suprisingly, I survived largely intact. I have an OS 25 FSR on it, which was good, but a little more speed would have been nice as well. You'll be fine with a 25 in it.

Re: Sig Kobra .25 Perfomance
BTW, there are several examples of Kobras that have been fitted with .46-.50 engines, including Sport Jett .50's (i.e. 17k on a 10-6) which will pull the thing into the 125 range or so with that thick wing. I've flown one with a .46 (not mine) and honestly I didn't find the engine weight and landing performance to be anything scary. It's no Kadet but it is not a nightmare by any means. Depends what you want it to do.

On a Big Stick 60 I bought ready to fly with a OS 75AX engine in it, my first landing was hard as I had no elevator, it just fell out of the sky. I increased the elevator throw and tried again with the same result. So I increased the throw again with the same result. The CG was good so I started shedding some weight from the plane. I removed 8 ounces of weight In total and what a difference in the planes landing performance. The extra weight alone was the problem with landing. The engine swap I did shed 5 ounces of nose weight. I now have elevator control when I land. It seems to fly the same as well. Cheers Floyd. |

Re: Sig Kobra .25 Perfomance
They don't like a trainer for sure, but on any decent surface they can be landed fine. There are far more difficult aircraft to land than a hopped up Kobra. Folks overpower them for the obvious meat-headed reasons, but the thick wing holds it back so the net gain is not as impressive as it could be. For sure, it is a more well mannered aircraft with the proper weight powerplant in it. All depends what turns your crank and what you want it to do.

Re: Sig Kobra .25 Perfomance
I flew mine with a OS 35FP. Just be aware that this plane does a wicked snap if you slow it down too much. Therefore, keep the speed up when you land.

The worst plane I ever flew for snapping was the Great Planes Super Sportster 20. The location of the servo's made it a top heavy plane. Cheers Floyd Last edited by floyd; 01-18-2021 at 12:52 PM. |

Re: Sig Kobra .25 Perfomance
Ya, I never had a problem when I had mine, slowed down quite nicely.
Funny story about a guy in a Sig group on Facebook. He got a Kobra that somebody had scratch built. He had a friend fly it and he said it was a horrible flyer. Wanted to tip stall, snap, poor low speed performance, but it flew great upside down. Turned out the wing was built upside down.

Re: Sig Kobra .25 Perfomance
It shouldn't be snap happy as a general personality trait - something was up. I just inherited a few things including an older Q500 racer where the left wing panel had been installed upside down, and this is not a symmetrical airfoil. Apparently he still flew and raced it.. I may pass.
