removing rudder from eflite's Maule float

Any suggestions for removing the rudder from the Maule float. It's extremely tight and I'm afraid I'll break it. Appears not to have a set screw holding it in. I want to fly off snow and I don't think rudder will survive a landing.

The only thing holding the rudder on the mount is that set screw you mentioned. It may be tight because of corrosion, just add a drop or two of oil or penetrating fluid on it and twist while pulling the rudder down.
Hope that helps

Re: removing rudder from eflite's Maule float

There has to be some sort of set screw holding the rudder shaft in place. It is a 1.5mm hex socket in a brass insert. Attached picture shows this.

Re: removing rudder from eflite's Maule float

I can confirm there is a 1.5mm set screw in there. It secures the control horn to the rudder. Just checked mine. To remove the rudder remove the set screw and pull on the rudder with back and forth motion, it will pull out eventually. If you don't have a set screw then its likely because its missing, else there would be no way to adjust the rudder on the float and hold that control horn secure. Just use a bit of WD40 and pull on the rudder as mentioned previously.
