Hello Gents , I recently heard that the Edenvale flying club is going to be closed and I moved near by just my luck . any members from that club or fellow rccanada members have an idea on how I could get a club close to home started ? hate to give up the hobby due to no where to fly

Re: Edenvale flying club

We are looking for a new field.
I bought my house knowing that the field was close by.
I've traveled before to fly so I may have to do it again.
Cheers Floyd

Why is it closing? I thought the place was plane friendly?

The owner has expansion plans for the Aerodrome.
A farmer also lost a field he was using. Cheers Floyd

Re: Edenvale flying club

Not sure where you moved to, but the Huronia club is just on the south end of Barrie in Stroud.

Has been going strong for many years.

Here is the website.

Sad to see Edenvale closing or at least losing the facility. I’ve been to quite a few events there over the years.

Re: Edenvale flying club

I love RC flying and the hobby in general and have a fair amount of money invested but purchasing a house based on where a RC flying field is located.
May be its just me.

A hobby is always a consideration when choosing a home.

I think for most people a house is our biggest "lifetime" investment/purchase and choosing where to buy based on RC flying field locations make no sense.

I'm spending 1/2 a million + or more on a house which is average in this country and I find a house/location that I really like and I'm not going to buying that house just because I now have to drive farther to the nearest RC flying field a place I'm going to spend a few hours a week at.

Field could move.
Field could shut down.
Priorities change over time and your no longer in the hobby etc etc.

Its a hobby.

When I flew at the Huronia club I brought three planes to fly and spent from around 9:15AM to around 4PM daily except weekends. I picked up lunch for anyone that wanted to buy it and made a day of it. One season I burn't 11 cases of fuel. I only had one car at the time and bought another so my wife wasn't trapped at home all day while I was flying.

Even when I joined Edenvale I flew at least 10 hours a week. That's why a close by club was needed. Now as I'm getting older and Motorcycling has been more enjoyable my flying has tapered off. But when I move again I will have enough property to fly my planes on, regardless of the expense.

The difference between us is I would never spend 500K on a house.

Cheers Floyd

Re: Edenvale flying club

Not my choice to spend that on a home but really where can you buy a home in this country at least close to an urban area for under 400,000?
Maybe I'm living in the wrong province.LOL
