Re: My 78" Mosquito Project; She's coming along now!
The tail cone of this model has been broken due to hangar-rash about half-a-dozen times in its history.
Working on it this week, I noticed the tail cone was nowhere near scale, it was much too long. I glued in new stringers and filled the gaps, then carved it down to scale and added a few ribs to hold the shape. Then added balsa sheeting to close it up. She's coming along

Re: My 78" Mosquito Project; She's coming along now!
Max,
I wonder about the use of an "uncaptured" ball link on the elevator horn shown in the pictures on post #5. I haven't read about them failing - the plastic "glove" popping off the metal ball. And way back I once used such a link on the arm a single servo driving aileron thru pushrods/bellcranks. But captured ball links - Du-Bro calls them swivel ball links - having a bolt threaded thru the metal ball and secured with a washer/nut on horn came on the market after the uncaptured ball link and seem to the kind of ball link now generally used, at least on larger models. The captured ball link still supplies side to side movement in the connection and they also come in small/light weight sizes - 2/56 and 2mm as well. https://www.dubro.com/collections/ba...ivel-ball-link just a thought

My father Flew Mosquitos during the war, along with Spitfires. Where i grew up, they pulled a old Moquito out of a swamp, and the Cadits spent many many years rebuilding it, back to its original glory.

Only time will tell. Though I have to admit I have used this style on many planes and helis without fail. Mind you, these are Dubro's as well, and these are made of NYLON. In my experience, I found the ones THAT DO fail are the ones made of plastic. Years back I bought a large bag of "big" and another large bag of "small" cup-style ball links made of plastic with brass balls from Hobby Lobby (remember them?) at the Toledo show. Those ones fail with predictable regularity. Needless to say, I don't use them any more. Lets hope the Dubro nylon cup holds out!

Re: My 78" Mosquito Project; She's coming along now!
I used the uncaptured ball linkage on a tailwheel steering tiller that was closed in & non accessible on a glassed & painted Top Flite kit built P47. The plane was ready for its maiden flight but I thought the tailwheel was slightly out of line.
No problem, I disconnected the pushrod from the servo & started to turn the pushrod for the adjustment. The nylon end popped off the tiller ball !! I had to cut open the fuse for repair & refinish. I still use them but adjustments are now done at the servo.

That is good advice, Richard.

Re: My 78" Mosquito Project; She's coming along now!
Work continues! The landing gear blocks have been re-enforced against the bulkheads to distribute landing loads further into the model.
I have started applying filler to the fuselage and wings, but ran out. What is a good filler to get? Is drywall spackling a good substitute?
