It's an old school set of plans, before brush less. The hull is balsa with a 1/32 covering of plywood not a lot of strength there. I'm just using three cell and a 450 drone motor because I have lots of those batteries and motors. This is actually a practice build the next one will be 1/8 scale I'll spend money then but for now I just want to get a feel for the big build.

Re: Ted Johnson Shovel nose Hydro build

I looked up parts for the Traxxas Spartan. Because this is more of a building practice rather than a final product I felt that money could be better spent on the 1/8 scale boat. I looked though my junk collection and found a stuffing box and prop assembly that were not the same size. All that was needed was to bush the stuffing box down to fit the prop shaft. On my Smithy lathe/mill I made up some bushings and soldered them onto the stuffing box, here are some pics of the assembly.

Nice DIY on the prop shaft.

I see the quality inspector has been checking out your work!! Was it approved for use?

Yes it was Max, good for at least 600 rpm. I have more fun making the stuff rather that playing with it.

Re: Ted Johnson Shovel nose Hydro build

Once again on the scrounge for boat parts. I located my spare 450 quad motor, it's speed control and a universal joint. I'm going to bore the hole bigger in one end of the universal joint, then machine down the threaded prop mount to fit the bored out universal joint. I have to take the connectors off the old speed control to solder onto the new Hobby King reversing speed control, because I don't have any spares. It will look good when I'm done believe it or not, maybe not too fast but fast enough to get it on a plane.
