Re: balooning tires???

We used to glue our tires to the rims in order to keep them on the rim when doing high RPM runs. Otherwise centrifugal force would balloon the tires so much they popped off the rims, even when going straight.

My favourite glue is shoe-goo. Some guys used CA. Shoe-Goo is flexible and bonds well to rubber. Just cut along the inside of the rim between the rim and tire when you need to get the tires off

Re: balooning tires???

Firstly for street runs, remove the buggy wheels and use street rubber. If your street tires still baloon, then dismount the rubber off the rims, then flip the rubber tire inside out, use a piece of duct tape do a couple of wraps around the tire itself, then flip it back over and mount the tires on the rim with "tire glue". Make sure you clean up the rim with either acetone or alcohol prior to gluing.

The duct tape acts like the steel belt of a tire and will hold it's shape better in high speed runs. It's not a permanent fix but will work for awhile.

See how it's done on this video.

Yes, belted tires have been a thing for several years. Both Pro-Line and Duratrax have belted versions in most popular sizes, now. Night and day difference in durability of the tires. I have yet to see a belted tire fail at the shop.
