It's been a long time since I've posted here on RCC - I haven't been this excited about a model in several years. I wanted to share a few pictures of the 1/6.75 F-16 I'm putting together that Doug at Jets North brought in for me, along with the Kingtech 140 to power it. I haven't been able to find much documentation on it.

Being a budget stand-off scale jet, I anticipated a few quirks. So far assembly has gone well. The only fall back so far has been the stab setup. Maybe I'm being too picky... I don't know.

The bearing block for the L/H stab required some shimming to get the leading and trailing edge gap even. In doing so, I discovered all of the bolts (for both blocks) just finger tight. I also didn't overly care for the factory method of removing in/out play of the stab. It calls for a fibreglass washer between the fuse and stab. I'm not crazy about the outboard bearing not being held captive, so I opened up the holes in the fuse slightly and made some aluminum sleeves to contact the inner race of the bearing. I also threw away the supplied clevis' and used ball links. This has made for a slop-free setup, I'm very happy with the end result.

The second step was cutting slots for the aileron servo horns. Cutting through the foam core is like butter, the upside is that it's very light. A bit of care and some extra time is required.

Cheers,

Colin

Re: Skymaster/Xtreme F16

Next up is the fuel tanks. I Opted for some glue-in hardware. I didn't want the tanks to balloon/pressurize during filling, so I went with some high-flow fittings. This will make servicing the tanks easier too. Definitely a worth while up-grade.

Re: Skymaster/Xtreme F16

I'm running out of room quickly for electronics, which is allowing me to get creative. I've made a few trays to hold the equipment out of fibreglass laminated balsa. The front tray will house the pneumatic valves and flight controller (smoothflite), and a smaller tray just in front of the turbine will take the FADEC and fuel pump.

Re: Skymaster/Xtreme F16

Making use of vacant space ahead of the turbine for it's associated equipment. Once everything is in and the CG is decent, it'll get a coat of paint.

Thanks Eric. I got a couple Nav lights installed today before work. I also laminated the balsa tray in carbon to give it some strength.

Re: Skymaster/Xtreme F16

Nice looking jet, Peter. By far my favorite F-16 scheme, and it should be easy to follow.

Re: Skymaster/Xtreme F16

Nice job Colin, there are some pretty tight spaces to work within.

May I ask where you buy the carbon fibre sheeting?
