New proposed regulations by Transport Canada

Am I reading this right? The 90M height restriction will be lifted under the newly proposed TC regs? I fly electric gliders (radian or larger) often in a local park that meets the restrictions on distance from an airport and usually the distance from people...but I want to LOS thermal at a height higher than 90M; the only way I can (legally) do that now is at a MAAC field.

122 metres is the height limit - oops, that is for drones. I fly micro-drones (under 250 gm) so getting up even 50 m can make the little guys hard to pick out of the sky - "Speck out". Hope you find some good thermals when it get warm enough again.

I understand your frustration but when there are so many out there who have little or no want to follow even the most basic common sense practices rules only follow after reasoning fails. All I can say is some groups bring this stuff on themselves and as far as I am concerned is they reap what they have sown. If your one of the ones who make every effort to follow safe guidelines then I feel for you that you have been lumped in with all the other bad examples. Be thankful that MAAC has lobbied on behalf of their members and you still have an option open to you.

Re: New proposed regulations by Transport Canada

Regardless of what TC does.. your altitude is still governed by the "controlled"
air space over you... check the map at this site to find out.. click the little buttons on the top left to find the lowest point..

Re: New proposed regulations by Transport Canada

You need to have permission from the land owner, be a MAAC member in good standing and listed as a "fixed wing pilot" plus have the mandatory owners info in or on the plane. You also need to know the classification of air space to know the max altitude available for model flying to know what's legal & safe. We are not limited by a specific rule such as 400 meters etc. We are also not restricted to do this at a MAAC sanctioned field but I can't say whether flying on land owned by a town or city etc & maybe used as a park or recreational land can be used without permission & many such parcels of land have by laws dictating approved ways the land can be used as well as restrictions which may make any form of model aircraft flying illegal.

Re: New proposed regulations by Transport Canada

If a town bylaw is in place regarding flying “drones” in parks ; permission might be granted to allow flying with restrictions ie max weight , electric only , altitude , spotter used , just to name a few. It would be something that would have to be arranged with the town. Get it in writing and follow the conditions to the letter .

Re: New proposed regulations by Transport Canada

Not many towns will give permission if any. Parks are there for the enjoyment of the there citizens and they expect peace and quiet. Drones would be annoyance and possibly unsafe.

Re: New proposed regulations by Transport Canada

It’s one on one , as every location is different . South of us in BC , the recreation department contacted the nearest RC club and asked if they wanted to use their large rec field for rc use. Kind of “reverse engineering” . Near were I live, a few guys contacted the city to see if a tri baseball field site ,could be used for under 3 pound ,electric only ,limited to 12 members . Specific days and times were set down. Had the field until it was shut down for expansion of a new firehall complex that reduced the usable size. So yes , it can sometimes be done with the right approach .
Not saying it can always be done but the right approach helps. Might also add that this was before TC got involved Due to those that did what they wanted and to he_ _ with everybody else.

Re: New proposed regulations by Transport Canada

That TC page relates to NON MAAC people. If you are a MAAC member & meet the requirements in my earlier message you are not limited by those requirements in the link above.
