Re: Needle Valve Needed
Rob and Ken,
I have attached 2 photos of Como 40 carbs from engines made in the mid 80's. These have collet type needle valves like everyone is talking about. Rob's carb is different, I suspect later than mine. Note the spring clip on the main needle side, I don't think it uses the collet type needle assembly. Later carbs had the ratchet type needle. I am not familiar with that type. My carbs have a 14 mm spigots so you may be able to swap the brass needle base for a collet style including the needle assembly, I will look for one here, Ken your stash of parts could be a source as well. Hopefully this helps steer you in the right direction. One photo shows a setup with a Jett remote needle assembly and a cutoff original collet style needle, you could solder the main needle hole shut as suggested above and use this option or find another remote needle assembly. I can say the Jett needle is a good one. I hope this helps. Dave |

Re: Needle Valve Needed
Rob,
I looked in my stash and came up empty. I have a collet style needle but no nut, and no brass assembly the NV screws into. I think Ken's stash is your best bet. I did find a later Tiger 40 with a ratchet type NV but the brass piece it fits into is different again. Not sure what model you have, the spring clip is confusing maybe something not quite factory as the brass base on your carb looks like the collet type. I would be looking for the whole needle and brass base assembly. I attached a photo with the newer needle assembly, but it is different from your carb. Dave |

Re: Needle Valve Needed
WOW!
What a GREAT Response from the RCC community! Thanks to one and ALL! ![]() This engine is OLD and it seems to me that some parts of the Carb are NOT Original Stock. ![]() So, I removed the spring clip and nut to get back to the basics. I hope that this clarifies things for everyone and makes it easier to identify the parts needed.

If you get the "titing" nut, you can probably repair the compression tabs/slits in the nv receptacle with a thin Dremel cut off disk..... otherwise perhaps a fuel tubing/shrinking tubing over the end of the nv recptacle would replace the friction/drag of the titing nut.

Re: Needle Valve Needed
I'm happy to say that I now have parts being mailed to me by one of our RCC friends.
Once Again; Thanks to all for your input! ![]() Stay tuned for the updates and if I get brave I may even try to post a video on how well the engine runs after being being forgotten in a basement for 20 years. Happy Landings! ![]()

Re: Needle Valve Needed
Rob,
I hope you get this engine running, I would like to see your video. Glad you took the spring clip off, it really does clarify things and I agree with others that your carb is the old style like mine. I just got back from the field flying the plane with the remote needle valve I sent you pictures of. It works really well. My old Como spins a 9-6 APC on that plane and the needle is very broad, Jett does a great job with that assembly and your hands are much safer. Dave Ford |

Re: Needle Valve Needed
I know I'm late to the discussion, but looking in my carburetor parts box today, I found these two ST needles..
I may have the collet as well to go over the NV body, that puts tension on the needle.

Good luck with the motor. The COMO was my first RC motor and ran great with a 10-6 prop. (It's destined for a Sig Komander that's also been on the back burner for as many years...LOL.)
