MAN-WIN trainer VS 50 yr old guy

So I decided the wind wasn't that bad today, and my kids wanted to see what this control line stuff I've been talking about was.

I dusted off my Man-Win trainer, with the Golden Bee .049, and an old Top Flight 5 1/4 x 3 nylon prop. Running some old 25% Wildcat fuel I've had for about 15 years. Sullivan 26' wire lines, and my old home made handle.

I had two flights. Second one put me down on the ground, lol. Luckily the ground is wet and soft and I didnt hurt my head.

My wife certainly had a good laugh. Kids were pumped. I bet this is more exciting than flying my jets, helis or big scale gassers. I certainly had a great time. Cant wait for the better weather! I can fly in my front yard now....

Great video. I like the ending of the second video very much. I really know the feeling, and I will probably be the same in a week or two. Heck, I will prep up my ManWin for a flight too.

I let my wife post the end of the flight where I fall down, on her facebook. Its going viral lol.

I knew I was going to fall when I stopped, but while I was flying it was fine. I am sure ill get used to it again. Been a few years since Ive flown CL models. More than a dozen. Been trying to get back into it for a few years.

I have a CG Stunt man, Lil Whizard, Lil Satan and a few of these MAN-WIN trainers, and one of my own built models RTF. I also am putting together two Corehouse foam wing 1/2A combat trainers for a pair of Cox Black Widow's I just rebuilt, with new tanks and CNC machined aluminum backplates from Cox Int'l. Looking forward to flying this season in my yard. Now that we have 5 acres of property and no close neighbours to bother.

Ive not been feeling well lately (mentally). Its been a struggle for some reason this past several months. Running the Cox engines, and having a few flights was the BEST medicine I could have taken. In all seriousness, its the first time I was excited, laughing and just like a kid, in months. Cant wait for the field to open up, and get more models airborne.

Re: MAN-WIN trainer VS 50 yr old guy

Sorry to hear you've not been feeling well. But, it is great to see you getting out with your family for some fun and entertainment. I too have been in a slight lull lately. But I too reckon some engine therapy this coming week will put a smile on my face as well.

That is the one thing I both love and hate with small models. I too have many ready to go of all flavors. The bonus is that they are quick and cheap to build. I will take a list later as I am just about to head out for a while now.

Looks great Andrew. Glad you were laughing. Maybe time for a pole in the ground, or 2 other buddies to hold onto while you race.

Take care, Daren

You lasted aboot twice what I would have. Good job.

Always fun when make the kids or grandkids laugh at our expense, (but a complete waste of time telling them how good you used to be or that they can expect to get there one day, too).

At least the snow is gone.

Snow left early this year - a month ahead of schedule.

I was never great at cl, but I could do basic aerobatics, inverted flying etc with a larger model. I find going in circles fun though!

I am lucky enough to have tried many things in this hobby. Turbine jets, helicopters, large scale aerobatics planes - as well as many standard size sport planes over the years.

I can honestly, 100% say that flying a 1/2a powered CL plane gives me as much fun as any of my “fancy/expensive/impressive” models and engines. Really. I love this hobby!
