Did you happen to weight them before and after to quantify how much crap was in there?

John,

I wish I did, but unfortunately I didn't. I did think about it after the fact, but the telltale is, when I first got it, the canisters felt heavy (ya not overly quantified) and didn't have a ting to it when tapped.

Now honestly, it feels like half the weight, and I can tell you, after washing out all the crud from both canisters, you could have filled up 1 and 1/2 coffee filters full of junk. They were loaded with crap. Also now when you tap the canister, there is a metalic sound instead of a thud.

Re: How to clean Canister Mufflers

MTW lists the 75 rear exhaust as approx 275 grams. One of these are exactly that, the other is at 301 grams. I'm soaking that one again to see what I can get out of it.

Re: How to clean Canister Mufflers

I weighed the canisters after the 5th soaking. I'm going to stop here because it's pretty darn close to the factory weight.

The dented one is 2g less than factory, the other one is 14 grams more than factory, the 5th soaking got 13 grams of carbon out of it. I'm sure after it's installed in a plane the rest will come out due to vibration and heat.

When tapping the canisters with a pencil, it now "Tings" instead of "THUD". Plus when flowing water through it, it now flows freely, unlike when it first arrived. UGH.. Huge difference.

Gordon,

If you take that "Super Clean" and cut it 75 (super clean)/ 25 (Water), it makes for an amazing spray cleaner for your airiplanes after a flying day. Works on Glow as well as Gas, and much much cheaper than Windex.

I'm lazy so I just use it full strength in a spray bottle for all duties.

For BBQ cleanup, this stuff is fantastic too.

Yes i know that, use the plug on the exh. end and dump 1/2 can in there; a bit of hot water and a good shake. let sit over night.

Re: How to clean Canister Mufflers

It's spring cleaning time, just bumping this up for those that want to clean up their exhausts and or are experiencing a drop in performance.
