I'm curious, did anyone ever own the Cox .049 Indy car? You could get the car with an Indy Nissan or stocker style body. They were a lot fun back in the day. Ran flawless too with the Maples throttled .049 engine.

Re: Cox .049 Indy/Stocker

I never had one but I sure wish I did. My first RC car was a Tamiya Ranger F150 SRB - kit # 58027
I'd still buy one if it was the right price, just to have an RC car with a .049 in it. Modern radio gear is smaller and lighter which should really help with the power.

Re: Cox .049 Indy/Stocker

I still have mine. The nylon gears are stripped so until I can find replacements, it will sit in the closet. I disassembled it and cleand everything up real good. Just waiting for the day i can get her back on the road. I had the Indy version....the body shell was toast long ago.
My younger brother had this toy car that had a Fiero body at 1/12 scale so I fit that body to my car LOl
Looked pretty cool actually!
Car would move good....Cox claimed 30mp. I'd have to say it was close!

3D printing new gears with a resin printer or maybe ABS might be an option.

Re: Cox .049 Indy/Stocker

3d printing has crossed my mind for the drive gear. The pinion gear on the clutch bell is brass so I'd have to see what options there would be for that.

Shapeways can 3D print metal parts, not cheap though.

I've got the cox 1968 Camaro and the 1968 GTO new in boxes but they have the .020 engines . I do have a cox car with a .049 it's a Mk8b and also have a dune buggy kicking around somewhere . the Indy car was cool ..

I agree that 3D printing would be a good option. a composite assembly of 3D printed part with metal parts bonded to it might be a good option as well.

As a side-note, I had the same problem with stripped gears on my Tamiya JP Player special from the '70's. Could not find the nylon replacement gears for it anywhere. This was before I got a 3D printer. I managed to find some metal gears with the same shaft diameter on Aliexpress. The gear ratio is off by a few teeth, but still fit perfectly.
