Re: Scratch built CJ5 Jeep
built the soft door frames and soft top. the mirrors were a bit of fun, they are mounted exactly as my full size . the soft top has all the correct adjustable bows like the full sized Jeep I am not to happy with the windshield surround as it a bit to wide , I will keep looking and replace it when I find something better . looks like I will have to build another one for myself , Heather my youngest seem to have claimed this one once she found her barbies fit LOL.

Re: Scratch built CJ5 Jeep
they are micro piano hinges cut to the correct length . then I cut pieces of brass sheet and solder them on to create the proper flanges .The mirrors were real fun I used a dubro ball and socket set so the mirrors can be adjusted like the real thing . I tried to make everything function as it should to add realism . The problem with building anything scale is you don't know where to stop . I do have a mini Tim Horton's cup , I guess I should make a cup holder LOL.

I'm not a car guy at all, but definitely appreciate the excellent work and attention to detail. Nice job.

Re: Scratch built CJ5 Jeep
Thanks guys ,I must say I'm more into planes myself but it's kind of nice having something different to build . To be honest I really don't know where to go after building my Stearman with the Valach 250 radial , that was sort of my dream plane .I've always moved toward planes I wanted more but there is no plane I want more then my stearman . Strange feeling, is this what they call content LOL..

Re: Scratch built CJ5 Jeep
Started my full sized jeep CJ5 a couple of weeks ago , have the body pulled off and have been replacing it with a complete new Juan metal body . Rebuilt axles sandblasted the frame and covered it with epoxy paint and box liner coatings . New springs /all new lines, cables, hoses, brakes , rebuilt axles, new drive shafts, rebuilt heater box . Everything is either new or rebuilt . New soft top/seats .The jeep has a 5" body lift and a spring over axle conversion to accommodate the new super swamper 38x12.50x15. Have everything fitted to the new body so it's time to strip it down for paint .. will be painting it Atlas Yellow , same as my Stearman . Funny thing, this one is building faster then my 1/9 scale Jeep CJ5. LOL . The Jeep is a monster, with the tires on the hood comes almost to the top of my head and I'm 6' tall .. crazy fun in the trails .It's so much like it's little brother , will have to take a picture of them together when i'm done
