Slope Soaring, is it alive and well?
I am just putting out feelers here to see what is happening if anything in the slope soaring world for fellow RCC followers.
I confess to not having done any to speak of in a couple years now. I lost my south facing slope but have since acquired permission on another one yet to be tested. I also still have permission on a good North West bowl shaped hill. I plan to get back at it this spring. How about you?

Re: Slope Soaring, is it alive and well?
Yes Merv,
It is alive and well, however the winds were quite a bit lighter this year so it was more power flight than soaring. The afternoons were often too hot to fly. Must be climate change. Northern Alberta is only -2 C this morning in the middle of January ! Unheard of. Dave |

Re: Slope Soaring, is it alive and well?
Would love to try it but alas no suitable slopes around here in Niagara.

Re: Slope Soaring, is it alive and well?
No shortage of wind here Dave! +3 today, rain showers and winds forecast at 90 gusting to 110 km/hr!
Carl, I live on the flat prairie but every now and then out here something in bygone years has pushed up a hill or two. There is an east - west one about 15 minutes east of me that has multiple slopes. Most of the south facing ones are good but the north facing ones tend to be more gradual and tree covered. Don't despair though and keep your eyes open, with a smaller glider it's surprising what you can slope soar off of. The crows and ravens in the cities here use single and two story commercial buildings for their slope lift! Overpasses have some pretty good small slopes but one would be in the public eye and close to traffic! Too risky these days! On that note I am wondering if the TC/MAAC regs are hurting this part of our hobby in your part. Maybe folks are not comfortable discussing this aspect here?

Slopes in SASK? WHERE?
Never tried it as no real place to do it. Well Centennial Hill but it's right on the Flight Path to main Runway at Pearson and only 1000yds from the Threshold so would be frowned upon. I thought all you guys did in SASK was Pylon Racing especially you guys in PA!

Re: Slope Soaring, is it alive and well?
Lawrencetown Beach just outside of Halifax is a great slope site. There is usually a event there every summer. When the Sea Breeze starts up in the afternoon it doesn't get any better.

Re: Slope Soaring, is it alive and well?
I haven't tried slope soaring in Saskatchewan. I would assume there are slopes there.
