Hello Frank, The engine is a control line version, rear venturi & straight exhaust. I did turn the engine over with an electric starter & the contra piston popped back . Sacrilege I know for control line, but I believe the motor has ball bearings rather than bushings. Starting any control line engine at our field with an electric starter raises some eyebrows ! We try to keep it old school. lol

Richard, I have one of those engines, and, actually flew it in a Jr Flite Streak with Frank, when we both lived in Kirkland Lake. Its a rough looking engine, but it does run well once broken in.

Great coincidence, I have it running well now & it is also going in a Jr. Flight Streak.

A rough looking engine indeed, but it runs well. Without even measuring, one can see the cylinder is not perpendicular to the crankcase, the cylinder is seated properly & the screws are tight.

Mine was full of aluminum swarf when I took it apart before running it. The crankcase was full of machining leftovers, lol. Amazing that it runs as well as it does... not much care in machining or cleaning up. Iirc my contra piston was also too tight. It was many years ago I bought mine, though.

The MK17 I purchased around the same time (an .09 diesel) was finely machined he ran out of the box.

Re: MAP3 2.5 Russian diesel engine

My MK17 is a sweetheart and runs great. There are quite a few rough looking but fine running diesels out there it seems.
