Old kits.. who said they're hard to get??

This afternoon I was cleaning up some of my kits... most of which I acquired back in 2010/11 when we had out first son, and the rest within the past year here and there.

Some from ebay, some from guys here (thanks Frank!!) and others from the balsa builders facebook group.

I thought I had bought maybe a dozen kits, lol.. as they were stashed in various places at work and home. Just put most of them together today in the new home workshop room.. and made a list. YIKES! I think its time to stop scoping the for sale ads, lol..

The list:

Kits:

Ace R/C Tiger Kitten
Ace R/C GLH II
Ace R/C Mach None
Ace R/C Dick's Dream
Ace R/C High MkII
Ace Super Pacer
Airtronics Acro-star bipe
Airtronics New Era III
AMCO Lou Andrews Aeromaster Bipe

Lanier Stinger .10
Lanier Shrike .10
Balsacraft Rapier Delta

Ben Buckle Quaker Flash
Morris Hobbies SU-DO-KHOI
Great Planes Super Skybolt
Lanier Dominator 500
Sig 1/3 scale Spacewalker

QuikV6 arf6 ARF
Scorpio fiesta 45

Brodak flying stop sign
U Can Do 3D 61 ARF
Kamdax Mig15
Great Planes 40 size J3 Cub ARF

Not to mention about two dozen rubber stick and tissue kits, some control line kits and others, lol.

I think I was over compensating for both having two boys, who I REALLY want to get into kit building and flying and thinking kits were going to suddenly disappear.... Not!

I'll need too live for a few more years to get all these built and flying.

Re: Old kits.. who said they're hard to get??

Yup, you’ve got a few kits to build for sure.

I don’t have any kits squirrelled away but I have 5 ARFs put away for those rainy days down the road once I hit retirement. A Phoenix Decathlon MK2, Phoenix Spitfire MK2, Phoenix Dauntless, a CMPro Warhawk 50 and a CMPro Christen Eagle 120 which I plan on stripping and recovering. Still waiting for the Corsair 46-55 and the FW 190 46-55 to come back into stock at TH. Need to get a few kits put away too.

One can never start planning for that to early.

Andrew due to the hording nature of most modelers we have actually preserved the building aspect of the hobby for many years to come . Now you have motive to continue , your doing it for the future of the hobby LOL.

OMG! you are as bad (or worse) than me.
Been selling off a lot of stuff lately. I still have lots of good kits laying about. Especially warbirds. Stuff I have been amassing for years. But now I realize I just don't have the time I thought I would have. I'll be getting rid of some of them soon. Wanna buy some, Andrew?? LOL

A colleage who will be retiring soon recently told me he'll be able to start building the 50 kits he has accumulated.

Re: Old kits.. who said they're hard to get??

I'm still on a search for one more old kit. I have my Sig Komander built and flying, along with another complete kit, and a fuse kit. Finally found my House of Balsa F-86 Sabre. Going to cast a mold of the body and make templates of all the wood before I build it. Now I just need to find a Byron V35B Bonanza V-tail.

Re: Old kits.. who said they're hard to get??

Hey, I’m neither a “hoarder” nor a “collector”, lol. I’m a MODELLER!!!

Seriously I generally bought one here, one there and most I placed in storage at my shop. A few at home and some where I keep my built planes.

I figured I have half of what I actually do. Oops! He he.

I do have plans to build and fly everything I buy. Same with engines, I have nothing I wouldn’t run and fly, ie nothing to just sit on a shelf.

It’s pretty fun to cruise the forums/eBay/etc and see something I wanted badly 30 years ago, but now I have the $$ to buy it.

Re: Old kits.. who said they're hard to get??

Wow, looks like my collection lol. Im always watching for kits and grab what interests me. Through wheeling and dealing Ive ended up with several kits just to get the one I want. I have lots to build and a few to trade off. Keeps my addiction affordable.
Good luck with the building. Nice to see someone get back into it.

Make sure all is not left for the "golden years". Enjoy while you can. Bifocals, backs, etc. etc. can interfere in those golden years, so , just saying, enjoy some in the now!
