Where can I find a scale 2.5" tail wheel?

I have looked at Great Hobbies and Hobby Wholesale but they only have up to a 2".

Anyone have any ideas?

Re: Scale Tail Wheel

Not sure if a solution, but Ohio Superstars sells some large scale setups:

As for true to scale, it would depend on what you are trying to copy, ie. warbird, civilian, etc.

Re: Scale Tail Wheel

Thanks for the Link, I should have added just the tail wheel for my Hurricane. I did not find any that would have worked on his site.

Re: Scale Tail Wheel

Then you are looking for something like this. Wow how big is that hurricane if the tailwheel
Needs to be 2.5 in. .

Re: Scale Tail Wheel

This is the Vially Hurricane with a 92" wing span, 75" long and 25-30 lbs. He calls for a 2.5" tail wheel on his plans and 5" main gear

Re: Scale Tail Wheel

2 to 1 ratio makes for too big a tailwheel . Take a look at real Hurricanes , the ratio is more like 3 to one or 3.5 to 1.....if you take a look at full size picture the tailwheel appears to be smaller than 2 to 1..... I guess if a person could get the measurements of a real one that would be the best option ?

Re: Scale Tail Wheel

I was following on the Plans, if I measure with the Calipurs off the blueprints, that is the true size of the wheel and it looks to be the right size. I believe the main gear is supposed to be 5.5 not 5

Re: Scale Tail Wheel

Did some sleuthing and found out that the usual main full size wheels were 800x10 tires (alternate size 7.50x10)and the tailwheel had a 600x6 tire . Now to convert that to diameter at the period of the time as today the tire companies use a third number to determine the tire diameter.

Re: Scale Tail Wheel

Well, I mounted my tail gear and put a 2 1/4 wheel on it I had sitting around. I think a 2.5" wheel will be okay.

Re: Scale Tail Wheel

got a pair of wheels here that are smooth at 2.4 inches (60mm) that look closer to the
real style wheel . Here is a picture of a real Hawker tail wheel with a small hub and these are pretty close.
They have small spokes that can be filled in and then simulated bolts made. The rubber is smooth foam and light in weight. You can have for free but just pay the mailing
