Princeton Jets Spring event 2019 summary

After getting a little caught up at work again and back into the swing of things I wanted to start a thread especially to thank Paul Dries and all involved in the organization of Princeton Jets.
This past spring event was one of the best events in a long time. It was great seeing the regular faces, Paul and Joanie, Bob and Sheri Wonitoy, Bruce and Marilyn Bender, Rob and Chris Dover, Len Steg, Roman Breuer, Bob White, Sal and Linda, Ming, Alan and Jean Blore, Jack Price and Jack Lowe with Mike Allman, along with a few who haven't been in a while, Bill Reitzel was there from Washington and Lawrence Tang was back with his Eurofighter, he has been back a few events now but has not had luck flying. There were a TON of new faces for Princeton as well which was great to see!
We saw Dennis Rogalski flying an Excalibur Shawn Price and Dave Lundy both with Boomerang XL's, Tracy Hesla with a Boomerang XL, Shane Wunderlick who doesn't have a jet as of yet but is excited to get started in the world of turbines and of course Angus McDonald who also very generously sponsored our friday night pizza night. My dad also came out from Red Deer with his EDF Avanti.
My apologies for spelling errors or missed names, it was a lot of people, and a lot of new people and my memory has never been exceptional.

I believe Paul said we had 20 registered pilots and there had to be 40 airplanes at least.

There were some maiden flights all of which went well. Bill Reitzel had me spot for him during the maiden of his Super Bandit which outside of a nose gear that didn't come down on landing all went perfect, the gear issue was quickly sorted and more flights were made. Angus test flew his gigantic Leonardo 3M sport jet, I had the honor of doing the maiden on Paul's Aviation Design F16, I also had the honor of putting air under the wings of Lawrence Tangs Eurofighter for the first time in at least 5 years. The highlight for me personally was probably finally getting the maiden flight done on my Skymaster F5 after me owning it for 5 years and Dean Wichmann owning it at least 6 prior to that!

Speaking of Dean, unfortunately due to work committments he wasn't able to make it out this time but he says he will absolutely be there this fall for our 20th anniversary!

The only casualty of the event was unfortunately my F86. I didn't realize this but that jet was originally built in 1994. It was the jet that Dean took to the Jet World Masters a few years back and ended up in my hands last year. I was making my 2nd flight of the event (3rd flight total for me) when on a pass across the field the right flap decided to flutter and blew the wing apart. It was very disappointing as I was really starting to enjoy the airplane. It looks like the turbine survived, most of the servo's were damaged in the crash however. I guess in all honesty I have been flying turbines 20 years now and this is the first one I have written off so that's not that bad of a record. I've had some incidents in the past but nothing that couldn't easily be repaired.

The typical Princeton winds would show up around 2:30pm which shut down most flying outside of me deciding a couple times that flying my Miss Ashley QM40 would be fun and it was. I do love those little racers and nobody ever seems to be offended when they hear those nelson's unload to 30,000rpm!

Overall it was a great event with even better people. I am certainly looking forward to the next one! Thank you to everyone involved in the event, your efforts are very much appreciated!

“Finally” is an understatement I can’t believe I waited so long to come out. Really looking forward to September or something in between.

Re: Princeton Jets Spring event 2019 summary

Oh, yea,

We had 20 pilots registered and 4 more who came out to camp and watch and get hooked on jets.

Some notable exceptions..... Dean, Jon, Kelly, all the Seattle/WA guys except Bill R.....
