Hi All i could use a little info .
I have a RCGF 20 re stinger engine and been running it on 30to1 mix but i am getting a lot of black oil all over my plane and cant seem to get good power or rpms no matter wht the high end or low end settings are . i also tried a 32to1 Synthetic oil mix and still getting the same but a very small increase in rpms .

Does anyone know what the problem might be ?

Re: to much oil when running my engine

Black like that usually means there could be something (metal) rubbing internally on an aluminum part. A quick way to find out is if you can get enough of the black gook into a small glass bottle , add some solvent and shake and while it settle out hold it up to sunlight works best and if you see shiny metal flakes; that's parts wearing/rubbing and usually aluminum....not good.

As for fuel/oil mix always best to follow manufacturers instructions.

Re: to much oil when running my engine

Agree. Black residue is usually a sign alloy wear particles are coming from the internals. This is the same as when you polish aluminum and get the black residue.

That same indication may be why your performance is lower than expected. If the engine is wearing you may not produce optimum power.

Might be prudent to investigate what is going on before the possibility of losing the aircraft.

ps. The only time I ever saw too much oil affect performance, the owner had added so much it blocked the anti-backfire screen in the exhaust.

Re: to much oil when running my engine

Black residue and low power is also a symptom of a new engine which has not had the piston ring wear in yet. Usually beak-in procedures will call for a conventional oil rather than synthetic for this process.

Re: to much oil when running my engine

I am thinking along the line of Nick, how much fuel has been put through the engine so far.

Re: to much oil when running my engine

i Have ran about 6 ltr's thru it so far . I took your advice and looked into it i took the cyl head off and found a lot of wear inside the cyl and on the piston . going to try and get it repaired under warranty as its a new engine hell it hasn't even got in the air yet but as usual things go in my case it will most likely come out of my pocket .

Re: to much oil when running my engine

Just curious how is the compression. I have the same black coming out of my engine also and have low compression. I bought it used but with only a few flights on engine. My flying friends say it is just breaking in?

They may void your warranty if you've taken it apart.

Re: to much oil when running my engine

the compression seems to be the same as when i fist started it may even be a bit more .
there doesn't seem to be any bad scratches or gauges it looks like just regular wear . it is still breaking in for sure i knew that from the start . am just worried about all the black oil and no a lot of power .
