You were right! Lol.. I managed to get the head made on the weekend and bits and pieces over the past few days. I know it is rough and I know what I need to do better.

Gears need to be finer pitch, for better adjustment.
The cams are too conservative, open times are too short and not enough overlap
The head design is OK but needs better access to the glow plug as I couldn’t tighten it adequately
The rockers need to be made from steel and less slop.

On the plus side, I did learn a lot about this for my first attempt. My valves actually seal pretty well and this was my most worriesome thing to attempt. I know I can do even better though.

Again, the way I learn things is to start with a crazy idea and no real plan, and go at it! Learn what works, what doesn’t and then try again. I will try again, and I know the next time will be better!

The fact that it's running is a win!

That's pretty cool, congrats on the success . I found using aluminum push rods helped the RPM lots too . .

I'm speechless. That it truly amazing. I love the sound of it too. I have to ask. I am assuming that it was at idle? Do you or did you want it to put into a plane, or just for static bench running for your pleasure?

Nope that was wide open... lol. I’m sure the timing was not ideal to say the least. Valves opening too late and closing too early.

It’s a start though. I’m going to definitely revisit this. I have lots of metal and just need time.

I’d like to get it running as well as a bought engine, whether it flies or not although I’d like to maybe use it on one of my old timers.

No I did not as I was inside and they don’t work well with the fluorescent lighting (well actually don’t work at all).

Try advancing the cam timing one tooth.

Pretty neat seeing this running.
