missing Graupner Cumulus Wing Rods

I was given a beautiful Graupner Cumulus from the 1970s, but unfortunately the previous owner had lost one of the wing joining rods (the other 3 are all present and correct!).

I would be very grateful if anyone has a spare wingrod or set of wingrods for a Graupner Cumulus from the 1970s/1980s, as I would love to get this vintage glider flying again!

Re: missing Graupner Cumulus Wing Rods

Are they steel rods ? Straight ? If so just make one up out of steel music wire, same diameter ? Or depending of the diameter, you now could use carbon fibre rods or tubes to save weight.

And where can you find that ? try your local hobby store or eBay .

It depends on the diameter, but how about Arrowshafts?

Re: missing Graupner Cumulus Wing Rods

I have a Cumulus & the wing rods have been made as part of the wing so can't be removed. According to my micrometer they are .177 inches which translates to 4.5 mm. I built different wings for mine & used the best fitting size od music wire inside brass tubing for them. Both were readily available at the hobby shop. I suspect I soldered them together but epoxy or Loctite should be other strong options.
