Which Engine Should I Install

I have a Carl Goldberg Tiger 2 I bought off the classifieds here. It came with an O.S. 40 FSR ABC. I have serviced it and it appears to be in great shape. I also purchased a never been run Royal .46. I've never flown the Tiger 2. Does anyone have any opinions which would be the better choice? Opinions on power, reliability, nostalgia, etc. are all welcome. (I think the Royal was made by Leo so same as Magnum, ASP, etc.)

Fly it as equipped and see how she does with the 40 before going to all the trouble of a motor swap.

There is currently no motor in the plane. I removed the FSR to rebuild and to do some work on the airframe. I'm going to reassemble it soon which is why I'm trying to decide which engine to install.

I won't likely fly it this season. It's been so windy here I've not gotten a fifth of the the hours in flying that I was hoping for. I started last year with a 1.4 meter span foam trainer. I built and and have been flying a foamboard Cherokee which I like a lot. I have put one flight on my Saito FA82 equipped Hobbistar 60 which was great fun and I want to get really comfortable with it.

Re: Which Engine Should I Install

In that case then the larger engine. Can NEVER have TOO much power, besides just use the Left Stick more often!

I was sort of thinking that way. Just like powering a boat. You don't need to open the throttle wide open.

Re: Which Engine Should I Install

FSR engines are bullet proof, that would be my choice. Phil

Re: Which Engine Should I Install

I would definably go with the FSR also. Probably has as much power as the Royal 46 and has such great reliability. Probably one of the best running and easiest tuning glow engines made.

Re: Which Engine Should I Install

I loved our OS 40 schnuerle ported engines (40 years ago). Strong reliable motor as are most OS engines.
However, maybe now is the perfect time to install and enjoy an electric motor? No noise, vibration, oily slime, glow plug, fuel, starting paraphernalia to mess with.
Plenty of flight time for pennies a flight. Nice to hear nature around you while flying the models. It is more relaxing IMO.
Food for thought...
