is there such a thing as a good mini / micro RC car / truck at a reasonable price?

I'm looking for something that actually has some function to it for my grandson. he's 7 and spent $40 of his own money on a monster truck from Walmart and it's no good. I'm hoping there are some options if we move up to $100 or so.
there's not a lot of space in the home, so smaller is better if it lets him drive it around inside. and if it can be driven outdoors, that would be great. we have a gravel pit just around the corner to speed around in.
I'm not talking rock hopping or anything, but not jam up and get stuck if it hits a little thumb sized rock. we don't need pro / competition performance, jus something that can go and maybe kick up some dust.

3 years ago I bought some Helifar trucks for my twins from Amazon. They still go strong, I did end up having to replace the batteries with lipos, changed the connectors to EC2's. However the kids still have fun with them and they have lasted. The ones I bought aren't available but it looks like they have a newer generation here: https://www.amazon.ca/Hosim-Controll...1671351&sr=8-2
