Jason I have all of my 30cc and one 50cc set up the way you are explaining. It works for me. I check my battery after every third flight on a 2200mah pack, I fly as hard of 3d as I can on those little planes. Lots of stick banging. I run two power inputs to the receiver and one to the opti kill. Never has an issue, I run mostly savox 1270's.

Re: LiFe on ignition

Ramjet, I understand what you're saying. I actually have the Tbolt IBEC setup you speak of on my 20cc Sbach profile. I haven't had issue with it yet, it works.
I am not trying to run the ignition off the Rx, just one battery to supply both. A picture is worth a thousand words. Attached is what I was planning.

Re: LiFe on ignition

Would 1 battery, 1 switch for Ignition and 1 battery and 1 switch for receiver not be the best way to go? I'm asking because I am kind of new to gasser's.

roger ya didnt have to take your words and go home. quick answer madmike thats way it can be done or many other ways whatever you are comfortable with. but understand the difference in all the batteries available. their voltage . and the voltage your ignition requires.

Yup. I was trying to save a few oz as well as a few bucks. This is getting to big size wise to fart around with. I will go with two batteries, both LiFe and double check after each flight until I am comfortable with average usage.

Many thanks.

Re: LiFe on ignition

I run my 35cc Laser on one 2500mah A123 6.6v pack from Thunderbolt. Can get 4 flights out of a charge but usually go with 2 packs and fly 3 flights on each. The plane runs a powerbus soft switch JR DeeForce receiver with a Tech Aero IBEC which has an adjustable voltage reg in it. Simple as plugging the IBEC into a receiver channel and selecting a switch to turn it on or off.

I came to this forum to ask this very same question. I to just got a DLE 35RA engine and am confused about which battery type to use.

The DLE Manual states that the range of voltage of their ignition varies between 4.8V to 8.4V but states that if one chooses to us a 7.4v 2S Lipo or a 6.6V LiFe 2S pack, that a voltage regulator IS to be used. That sounds like a contradiction to me. If the ignition will take 8.4V power source then why does a 6.6V pack need a regulator??

If someone could please explain this, then Revy1 and I will both be happy!

Anyway, I called my local hobby store and they say that a regulator is NOT needed with the LiFe 2S 6.6V pack.

Here's the problem: IF we go against what is stated in the manual, and it cooks our EI modules... NO WARRENTY! Then Revy1 and myself will both be up the creek without a functioning engine!!

Has anyone used either of these packs to power their electronic ignition without a regulator in this size DLE engine?

Revy1 and I would both appreciate an answer. Please HELP!

Revy1, thank you for allowing me this space in your thread!!
