We now have the DJI FBL system set-up to feel comfortable in taking this big heli into forward flight. Here is the video of it doing its' first circuits.

Re: BIG Turbine powered Llama

Really nice, I am afraid to ask how long it took to get it ready to fly.

Thanks for a look at it.

Thanks for the Kudos on the flying Ken. I even had softer landing on the following flight <G>.

John started this with a kit from Vario that is designed for use with turbines. He then added the Jakadofsky turbine system for helicopters, changed the 3-bladed Vario rotor head for another from a manufacturer in Europe. (It uses 3 x 108mm blades!)

The head is all controlled through the Top of the line, GST version of the DJI flybarless system.

He added a full cockpit interior, that includes a lighted instrument panel, which even includes a moving map display and an audio track that gives ATC instructions when the system is turned on!

He has just received the pilot and passenger models he ordered to occupy the seats, so hopefully it will look even more authentic the next time out.

It also has a full complement of scale lighting and a scale triple bladed tail rotor.

The video does not do Jamie's (a turbine flyer) beautiful paint job justice, as you cannot see the red maple leaf motif that is incorporated into it.

The more you look at it up close the more detail you discover.

For its' weight, I was amazed how well it responded. As for wind....what wind? It just seems to shrug it off.

Re: BIG Turbine powered Llama

I finally got around to editing the second flight from May 5th after a few more tweaks to the FBL system and now that I was more comfortable with the heli. Hope you enjoy it

Re: BIG Turbine powered Llama

Absolutely beautiful. As I see it go by I expect a Hughes 500 to be chasing it along, (if anyone knows that reference they're showing their age!)

Now that all the set-up is basically complete and tested, he will now install the rest of the cockpit. The next time we go out, I will try to do a video walk around & shoot all the different scale details.
