Apparently these have superior performance to the analogue systems and have high-definition video.

Picture clarity is supposed to be superb without the fazing and snow effect common with analogue video signals

The googles are high-def and feature 1 TX antenna and 3RX antenna

The "Air unit" has integrated camera and VTX. The connection cable supplies power to the VTX and also allows the VTX to connect and control to flight-stabilization systems such as betaflight via Sbus.

There is also the option to use the DJI TX controller to control the model negating the need for a separate TX/RX to control the model.

That is pretty much the extent of my knowledge so far.

Anyone getting one of these? What is your applications and how do you find using these?

Show us what you got!!

Yah............................................... .............................. right !!!
Sure wish I could wear a pair of those whilst working out in this Tropical Heat Wave.
Damn... they should just build a whole helmet behind it so you can plug in a ventilation fan or an air conditioning unit.

Epson's head display is more in the right direction.

If it breaks make it bigger, if it sticks out... chrome it !!!

Belated "Happy Canada Day 2020"...
And a "Happy Independence Day 2020"

Re: DJI FPV Thread

I picked up the DJI FPV and like it a lot. The on board DVR can be finiky, will stop recording some times without input to stop it. I have a set in my wing. This video was the goggle recording only.

Very nice, Buffy! Amazing quality video considering that was the goggles recording. This is what sold me on getting this system: No fazing or static!!
PS- great choice of music!

Re: DJI FPV Thread

Alright. Here is mine. I got the combo that comes with one set of goggles and 2 air units. Came faster than I expected.

Re: DJI FPV Thread

File this under: Things I didn't know:

After fiddling with it for a few minutes and getting frustrated with not being able to find the power switch, I discovered that there is no power switch.
I assumed the goggles had a built in battery like the DJI goggles used on their drone line. Not so! These goggles are only powered by an external battery that you have to provide.
The goggles comes with a power cord with an XT60 connector on the battery end. Power range is anywhere from 2S lipo to 4S lipo.

The goggles have to be "activated" with your DJI account. You need to download and install the DJI assistant for FPV, then log into your DJI account (or make one if you dont have one). They don't tell you you need the DJI Assistant FPV VERSION. I made the mistake of downloading another version of DJI assistant and was wondering why it did not recognise my goggles. After I got that sorted, I plugged the goggles into the PC, and DJI assistant did the rest.

The air unit: I didnt know it was also externally powered. The air unit comes with a 6 conductor cable. The first 2 are for power. For my first trial I just wanted to put it in a plane, so I connected a JST to the red and black leads. For both the goggles and air unit, I will be using 3S power. A 3S2200 for the goggles and a 3S 1000 for the air unit.
NOWHERE in the manual does it state power consumption, so there is no way to know how long these batteries will last at the field. I guess this knowledge will come from trial and error.

Another thing I didn't know about the air unit: the OSD connections are for digital connections only. If you have the older OSD units such as Dragonlink, Eagletree, EzUHF, etc, you are out of luck. They wont work. The DJI air unit cable has OSD UART in and out leads that have to connect to a digital OSD unit. I understand you can connect it to a flight controller to access the on-board OSD via UART using betaflight.
Oh well. More to buy and more to learn.....

My first trial will be with a bixler. Looking forward to that

Re: DJI FPV Thread

Now that I am ready to mount this puppy, how to do it?

The old days of hot-gluing it onto bits of plywood is out. Apparently this air unit gets warm in operation, which would just melt the hot glue

Might as well put my 3D printer to work! I searched around yeggi and it led me to a 3D printed nest for the camera and air unit from thingverse;
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4082399/makes

That looks a lot nicer than scraps of ply.

Before I print it, I want to add some flanges on the side so that it can be screwed down to the model, and then removed and transplanted to the next model when necessary.

Re: DJI FPV Thread

Max, are you planning on a wing or multi? You can get an iNav FC, add gps and now you can get the OSD data. A new update just came out for improved data transmission rate. and 1200mw.

I have one for a plane and the other will go into one of my small quads.

The one for the plane is what I would like to get my Dragonlink OSD to display on the goggles. Can I do this interfacing with the Inav FC? I have to rel-learn this UART TX/RX business

Re: DJI FPV Thread

Meanwhile... I have to wait patiently...

Note that I added the mounting flanges where the original design had none...
