Buddy Cord length and Social Distancing

Are there electronics heads out there that know if its safe to make custom length Buddy cords so we can stay 2 metres apart for social distancing? Current standard Buddy Cords are only 6 feet at most. Not long enough!

Just one of the problems if we are to salvage wings training when it's legal to open our fields.

Thoughts?

For the Apprentice RTF DXE transmitter, although the manual indicates that you need a buddy cord, it will bind wirelessly to other DX series transmitters.

Re: Buddy Cord length and Social Distancing

I have a cord that I use on my sim it is 12 feet long. I don't see why it wouldn't work as a buddy box cable too

The way I understand it is if you can’t stay 6 feet apart both wear a mask.

Re: Buddy Cord length and Social Distancing

Carl,

If it is a standard 3 pole jack like a mini headphone just get a headphone extension cable and plug it in. I suggest using electrical tape to secure the joint.

Re: Buddy Cord length and Social Distancing

I saw Spektrum makes a wireless link set up that should work to keep your distance. Futaba has one, but think only for square plug:

https://www.amazon.com/Futaba-FASST-.../dp/B002Z976XS

I believe the old Futaba round plug was industry common. Not sure on the square. Cable of the right type with correct conductor and shielding, (if required) should be available from Digikey or Electrosonic. Perhaps plugs, as well.
