Hello Fellow U Controllers: Can someone tell me where I can buy, or who manufactures, the specialty slim mufflers with holes in them, for control line applications? Thank you,

Eduardo

Re: Mufflers

So what would happen (other than a lot of noise) if you simply flew without a muffler and no tank pressurization?

Re: Mufflers

Here is another supplier of control line parts including tongue mufflers. Different engines react differently to no back pressure . Some of the older designs would actually make more power without back pressure but many just end up making noise and wasting allot more fuel. I assume you are trying for a stunt run which requires an engine that needles properly and reacts to load and position in relation to tank.

Re: Mufflers

When I hung around Dad and his buddies that flew control line in the school playground back in the late '50s no one ran mufflers or tank pressure. It works but I would expect a bit larger change in mixture between a full tank and an empty one. That should be the only difference.

Re: Mufflers

I would have to say most two strokes will run better and cooler with no muffler. Sometimes muffler pressure helps get a better more steady run. The end of the tank may not be so lean, so it could be an improvement overall depending on carb size and other variables.

Re: Mufflers

Be 40+ years ago but ran .35’s without a muffler. Got out of flying for a lot of years. When I retired decided to get back into flying. Electrics were big when I returned but longed for the smell of nitro fuel. Bought a nitro trainer and disassembled after a few flights. Now I’ve switched to electric RC. But I still have a hankering to build a nitro CL bird.
