Re: Sky Wing Owners Thread

I had a good maiden flight with my new SkyWing Laser but did have a dead stick. Spent some time trying to find the reason and eventually did. Had another flight but not enough battery left for any more. I guess I used up a fair bit of battery in the pits trying to find what was making my throttle position change when I switched to 3D rates. Eventually I found the problem in my program and corrected it. Looking forward to more flights and getting the setup more dialled in. It shows great promise, I think this will be a new favourite!

What a fantastic day yesterday, in total there were about 7 or 8 skywings at the RCFCT field. Paul's maiden was well done, very smooth yet agile on the Laser.

For me, I got my 91" ARS300 dialed in to the way I like it and it's fantastic, my 102" ARS300 powered by an EME120 continues to put a smile on my face, it's now got about 25 - 30 flights, and is super agile, strong and quiet with the JMB canisters and headers.

Does awesome crankshafts, parachutes and other wild maneuvers, yet lands really docile.

Re: Sky Wing Owners Thread

I got out for a few more flights on the SkyWing Laser. This is a really interesting airframe and I'll still be some time getting used to it. Crazy authority on all surfaces but especially the rudder. I noticed in my low or precision rate the plane wiggled noticeably with minimal rudder input so I reduced it twice and it will still fly a knife edge loop in my low rate (maybe 15 or 20 degrees max) and I haven't tried with side force generators. The magnetic pins for wings, horizontal stabs and canopy are great. I had high expectations and I'm very pleased with it!

Sounds like another Skywing convert... Agreed!!

It's one of the few planes I throttle down at the top to do a knife edge loop and just add 2 clicks of throttle near the bottom to round it off. It's very controllable, it's uncanny.

Re: Sky Wing Owners Thread

I think I found the right thread

I’m looking at a 104” Extra NG for 120cc on Sky Wing’s web site. The full size Extra NG was introduced at Air Venture 2019, so it’s a relatively new entry into the full size aerobatic aircraft market. One of its defining features is the low wing with respect to the thrust line. The Sky Wing model appears to have reproduced that feature, which runs contrary to scale aerobatic model aircraft doctrine of putting wing and stab on the thrust line.

Does anyone have experience with this airplane and/or an opinion on how well this airplane flies?

Re: Sky Wing Owners Thread

Bruno,
So far as I know it has just passed the design phase and is production now, not in stores yet. Best I could say is to contact Tim at NWRC and ask him these very same questions. One thing that Tim did tell me several months ago was that the NG is proving to be one of the best all-rounders for 3-D/freestyle and precision
Good luck
