Good afternoon, thanks for letting me join RCCanada, this is my first post. I have recently purchased a built but never flown E-Flite Beaver. In the future I wish to add floats. Although available from E-Flite, I was hoping for something more scale. Is there a manufacturer out there, or a member who has or makes scale floats and mounts for these? I know SeaCommander in Canada had nice stuff but I believe is no longer in business. I am in Alberta, Canada. Thanks for any info or help.

Scale details on something like this are generally added by the builder.

I used to own one of these E-flite Beavers and didn't like the way it flew off water. Just came back from a float fly and a guy had one there that really struggled on take-off. I think the CG/float step is in the wrong place.

If your gonna do a scale look, please, please make a retractable water rudder. That in itself will make the Eflite floats look more scale.
In the ‘real’ world, a float pilot who gets caught with their rudders down owes a case of beer!!!

I had an E Flight Beaver with the floats and though I did not assess them for how scale they were I was disappointed with their performance. First off the water rudders hung down too far and increased the drag too much on take off on step and were the first thing to touch on landing. Secondly the way they have you hook them up to the air rudder is bogus and quite simply is ineffective on the water.

The floats as supplied have far too much "V" on the bottom for this size of plane. They ran lower in the water than they should have for their size and kicked up excessive spray into the prop. In my experiance a plane of that size should have flat bottom floats. They work far better, ride higher static, create far less spray and are off the water sooner.

Scale floats no doubt would also have a steep "V" but it all depends on what you want them for, static display or actual float flying.

My Sig Seniorita is virtually the same size with the same power and skips on and off the water like a ballerina whereas the E Flight Beaver wallowed around on the water like an old sow!

I would suggest getting the eflite floats ( or something similar ) and scaling them up to your liking. Ultimately building some foam core (scale) ones would be the best choice. But if your not a builder then modifying existing ones is best.. I don't really know of any other good scale floats for that aircraft..
You can remove the water rudders for better takeoff performance. All my big float planes have no water rudders and you just get use to taxiing with out them.. I've found that if not set up perfectly they will always cause problems on takeoff, That is, if you don't have them retract up. If you do, then you have a neat scale feature.
Spray in the prop can usually be cured by adding spray rails down the front inner edge of the floats.. The mounting of the eflite floats is not scale either , but you can add struts to make it look more scale .. Any floats can be "more" scaled up , but you have to remember that this all adds weight .. You need to find that happy medium ..
