Re: Detective help needed

Hi John nice to hear from you again. Hope things are good at the river and your not up there without a paddle! Sent you some wind at lunchtime. After reading your post I had an image come to mind but I always thought it was a special Sterling kit maybe not Ringmaster but before that era possibly.

Re: Detective help needed

Good to hear from you too Cassat! I've been laying low on some other projects until the Covid hit and now our flying field is not as much fun since member attendance is limited.

I'm going to look real hard at those Sterling kits and see if something looks familiar. The kit might even have been modded and harder to recognize.

One more clue, and I might be making it up but I seem to recall that the control horn was at the wing tip and instead of a pushrod there was a steel air win a sheath running back to the elevators.

Thanks for the help.

Re: Detective help needed

Hey Bill, now that you mention L'il Toot I'll check on that.

It was a heavy model but flew nice under power and then floated after the engine quit.

Brings back memories of warm summer evenings on the Prairies.

Oh yeah, the wind.

It's been shaking the house all day and no letup in sight!

Re: Detective help needed

But if you are talking McCoy .19 and larger wingspan, the only L'iL Toot kit I know is the little 1/2A Goldberg version and that isn't it. Your description of the bellcrank mechanism got me thinking, and I pulled out an old Comet "Wildfire" c/l speed model kit, and indeed it has a bellcrank at the tip with a wire pushrod to the elevator. Other than that and the engine size, bears no similarity to your description.
