2 stroke engine oil
I am relatively new to gas engines I have a DLE35RE and I was wondering what 2 cycle oil and what ratio everyone is using in their engines?

Full syn is the best way to go IMO. Motul 800, Motul kart GP, Maxima 927, maxima K2, amsoil saber, amsoil Dominator.. all great oils that ive personally run and recommend.
I personally run 28:1, if your fouling plugs your too rich. Lean it out a touch.

I agree with Tim many good synthetic oils , I use IPONE Samarai @ 40:1 . I would recommend breaking it in on at least a couple of gallons of Dino oil to seat the rings , Penzoil air cooled oil is a good one .cheers

I'm running Amsoil Dominator in my gasser helicopters at 32:1.

Oil threads are entertaining but you will get 10 different answers from 5 different people.
If in doubt it is always best to look up what the manufacturer recommends - I googled the manual and it says 30:1. I would stick with that. The manual recommends Lawn Boy ashless for break in but as already stated, a good air cooled 2 stoke oil like Pennzoil Air Cooled is good. Just make sure you use oil for air cooled engines and not marine oil. Most of my gas burning buddies around here are either using Redline or Stihl Ultra synthetic.

The reason to run Redline is not only at least 2 of the manufacturers advise its use but also because it is a racing oil. It isnt going to start degrading for Greta when you mix it.

I am almost afraid to get dragged into another oil thread. Almost. After reading through my Dad's old chain saw manual, it said to use 30 weight oil for the fuel - and the chain. Have the oils changed that much over the years that it makes a difference? I get the feeling that the air cooled oil and the marine oil may all be mostly the same. The reason I mention this is I want to sell my outboard motor, and have a few gallons of oil that I want to use in the weedwackers and blowers. The synthetics probably are better. I also wonder if there may be a well priced synthetic that is mixable with methanol. I don't run gas, although I may soon in a model boat.

If you mix a synthetic like Redline Racing Oil you benefit from the fuel stabilization. In the spring I continue with the mix I made last time, last year. a lot of other reasons but this is a good one.
I would sell the outboard with the oil, then its in the past. |
