Maybe I am confused with another in flight failure. The video I am refering to clearly shows the bottom wing panel insert coming loose and the jet disintegrating in mid air. One of our club members has just finished one for "Maidenfest" . This is my most favorite jet, you will really like the way it flys!

I don't think Trevor's Mirage was glassed, but I'm pretty sure a control horn pulled out- it struck home, having experienced this myself.

Re: Fly Fly Mirage 2000 Build by 4stripes

Made a little progress. The fan and ESC (Birdie 110A with 3A BEC) has been mounted. Extended the motor wires to help reduce the length of the battery wires. The chinzy 14 gauge motor wires were removed and 12 gauge soldered directly to ESC. We added a hatch to allow access to the motor. The ESC is also removable by cutting the tie straps and reaching up the duct. ESC mounted on its side to provide better cooling to BEC portion. I removed the ESC covering and secured the heat sink with JB weld to also provide better inflow through the ESC.
The motor hatch has one screw fastening it from the top and will have another added at the bottom later. There are 3 toothpicks helping align the hatch and the exhaust cone also helps hold the hatch in position.

Re: Fly Fly Mirage 2000 Build by 4stripes

Looks good Eric , I forgot to make my motor accessible and paid a heavy price , cut open 3 times for 'upgrades'. My RC lander unit is very heavy, I had to place it further up the tube ( about 3 in.)to keep balance with a 45 C 5000 6S stuffed all the way in the nose. That CS12 setup is heavy as well. are you going for 8s ? I took my 4074 and CS12 out of my Viper90mm as it was just not enough to really pull hard for that heavy EDF setup. On this jet it should sound amazing!

Re: Fly Fly Mirage 2000 Build by 4stripes

It will be 6S with a 5800mah 30C Zippy stuffed as far back as it can go. We have checked the balance (laying all the parts on a balancing board). My 6S pack weighs 840g. I was worried about the fans 499g weight until we checked the balance.
Based on our other CS 12 powered planes, I think it will sound good and have plenty of thrust.
Not looking to do crazy speed but have a decent flier that is reliable.
Cheers Eric

Re: Fly Fly Mirage 2000 Build by 4stripes

Mounting the nose gear and improved intake splitters. The HK large servoless retract and Hobby Topgun landing gear will be plenty strong! Will add the steering servo later...

PS The last couple shots show some hardwood rails to support the plywood retract mount.

Re: Fly Fly Mirage 2000 Build by 4stripes

My father has made some headway on the cockpit (pardon the pun)!

We have also settled on the paint scheme since the factory paint wasn't acceptable. Initially a light and dark bluish grey was my choice buy I wasn't able to find suitable colours. The camo colours were available so that made the choice for us.

Notice the "cheater holes" on the last picture behind the main intakes! Don't think we will need them on the model...

Re: Fly Fly Mirage 2000 Build by 4stripes

Female pilots, hmmm interesting....

I like ur color scheme but it will be hard to see in air at a distance Eric, it's one thing to fly an aircraft as on board pilot but totally different to fly a radio control model from outside with dark colors on it. I would add some florescent stripes or roundels on the bottom for orientation purposes.

Re: Fly Fly Mirage 2000 Build by 4stripes

Eric ; I have some bad news, the Elevon mod I made placing the linkage on the top side of the wing and adding carbon tube over the pushrod has caused loud and heavy elevon flutter in high G moves .Mirage 2 was lost as it simulateously striped two hitec servos. Mirage 3 now completed has the same flutter but heavier MG servos did not break. I am thinking about making the JEPE style wing tip modification, and leaving the last 10 cm a rigid wingtip. I found another youtube video where this flutter snaps the wing in half .Short of adding lead to the trailing edge of the elevon ,I not sure what else I can do?
