I finished installing the control horn in the tail which will control the tail wheel steering. Since everything is so easy to get to at this stage I decided to install the servo and the pull pull cables for the tail wheel steering along with the pull pull cables that will connect to the rudder control horn. The next step is to build the floor section for the forward section of the fuselage. I pulled and cut parts to length and edge glued the balsa and plywood floor.

Looking very nice indeed Gordon. I can see why you want to rig the pull-pull hardware before sheeting.

What adhesive did you use for the edge gluing?

Re: MR Aerodesign 1/4 scale DHC-2 Beaver

Thanks John. I use LePage “Express” wood glue for almost all of the construction.

I put together the forward floor section and attached it to the “spine” extending out of the rear fuselage section.

Re: MR Aerodesign 1/4 scale DHC-2 Beaver

I spent about an hour figuring out the order of installation of the parts that form the door frame and cabin. This is pretty critical because all of the tabs and slots need to go in order. The picture shows the parts dry assembled and held together with clamps.

For anybody who might be building this plane in the future this is the order I would suggest:

1. Install all four F9’s into the upper “spine”
2. Install FAC (both sides)
3. Install FG
4. Install F11, F10 and the F8/F8A assembly
5 install FAB (both sides)
6. Install FW (both sides)
7. Install phonelic tube
8. Add balsa triangle stock as called for...

You might want to dry assemble all of the parts first to make sure everything is fitting...

Re: MR Aerodesign 1/4 scale DHC-2 Beaver

Finished up this assembly step! You might have noticed that the phonelic wing tube is missing. I must have goofed up and cut the tubes for the wings a little too long. As a result the piece that I have left for the fuselage is 1/4” too short. Martin will be sending out the replacement part along with some door hinges this week.

Test fitting the firewall and forward cabin. Time to mix up some epoxy!

Re: MR Aerodesign 1/4 scale DHC-2 Beaver

Lots of glue and lots of clamps! There is going to be a big Moki trying to rip that firewall off so I wasn’t stingy with the epoxy!

Nice!!!!

Looks like the firewall is tabbed only front to back for alignment, will you be adding any pinning or extra beef inside to keep that Moki from pulling the front end off?

I have circled all of the places where tabs (mostly hardwood or plywood) come through the firewall. They have all been locked into place with 1/2” x 1/2” spruce triangle stock. Hopefully nothing will move!
