Another followed me home.....

Well, I like to play around and fix things up and today this gem followed me home from a good friend. It will probably be something I will try out later thsi year, but will definately see it fly, if even someone else does it. It is a Sig Kougar. A porky little thing coming in at 3 lbs 15.2 oz. That is bare airframe minus nosegear, and cowl. Said he may have it still, but is no big deal to me. Just glad I got something to work on. It is painted so that may be where some of teh weight is coming from, but I have never had a Kougar so it may not be that bad either. Planning on putting a Magnum .45 on its nose, and may just need it. Also have to make an aileron linkage assembly and do a couple minor repairs and also make a new missing aileron. Anyways, here it is. The finish has some 'blistering' on it, but will probably still be alright to fly. If all goes well, I may also refinish it as another project next fall and over winter.

Re: Another followed me home.....

I enjoyed by Sig Kougar, I had an Enya 45CX with a tuned pipe on it. The wings on the Kougar had built in wash out, so it was very gentle on slow flights. Very responsive and fast when you nailed the throttle.

Fun plane.

Re: Another followed me home.....

They are a fun plane. As mentioned, the washout definitely lets it slow down and the wing is super thick which really helps it with slowing down too. Cowl is available from Sig if you need one, so no big deal there.

Here's mine.

Re: Another followed me home.....

Thanks... I think one might be legally blind if you can't see it in the air. Checkerboard bottom. 105 pieces of Monokote on the wing alone LOL.

Re: Another followed me home.....

You should have some fun with that one.

I built one of these back in the 80's with a tuned pipe 40FSR. Went like stink.

In fact, had aileron flutter till added a horn and weight on each approx 2/3 span out. Original ailerons were too flexible for the central linkage.

Nowadays would add servoless retracts to clean it up further.

Re: Another followed me home.....

Funny story, my first Kougar got killed by someone turning on their TX while I was flying. I liked the plane so much that I bought another one and built it in 1 week.

4-5 hours a night on the kitchen table from cutting out the pieces to flying the next weekend.

Those were the days.

Re: Another followed me home.....

Yup. Did the same with my second Goldberg Eagle. Had it on the flightline in less than 3 days.

Wish I had that kind of time and energy now.........

Re: Another followed me home.....

Glad to hear that they were somewhat popular, and flew well. Now you have me also a bit scared. I am planning on putting a Magnum Pro 45 on this bird thinking it would not be too fast. After seeing the comment of the FSR 40 making it go like stink, I am a bit worried. I guess I will have to learn throttle management.....
