The law I got the ticket under before is under the National Parks of Canada Aircraft Access Regulations.
One of my points is that it isn't intended for model aircraft because to ask the park for an exemption, the law says that you must submit the registration number of the aircraft.

The invermere soaring website is compromised but you can email them at soartherockies@googlemail.com

I'm joining the Invermere club this year because its much cheaper. The club planes there aren't nearly as nice as cu nim but one thing I've learned about hobbies is that when you start its best to keep tings simple and get nicer gear in increments.
Its just like with a new lover. You don't pull all your moves out right away.

Hi Chris,

Re: Alberta Slope Patrol guide

Yes, what this forum is supposed to be about until I hijacked it. On the road up to Norquay there is a beautiful lookout that I call Makeout point. There is a meadow and it's my favorite place to slope. There are also strong thermals there when the sun is shining on the meadow as well as the steep rocky area below and the road.
Sometimes I get really strong lift when a breeze comes down the slope and I fly away from it.
Here is a video of me flyng a radian pro there are few years ago. My skills have since improved.
https://youtu.be/tEzPZFPBpRQ
You get an idead of the place at the end of the vid.

The terrain isn't consistent. It has ridges and bowls so a slight change in wind direction can change things a lot.

Nothing better than getting off early for a little slope flying with my alula trek.

My Alula is now my favourite model. I know I can fly it in the national park because there is a clause that says non motorised aircraft incapable of transporting persons are exempt from the law. The head warden disagrees though because he says that the servos make it motorised.

Oh and I'm having an incredible summer flying in invermemre "full scale". Flying in the mountains is just spectacular and the lift is far more predictable and reliable. Even though the club is small, the number of km logged is about double the second highest in Canada.

I encourage anyone who loves soaring to take a look at going full scale. It's still a lot of fun flying my Alula alone at Carrot Creek though.

Hey everyone,

The sloping summer in Calgary has been great and we are seeing increasing numbers of pilots getting involved.

I have started a "Slope Soaring Alberta" Facebook page as another place for slope junkies to connect. I encourage you to join and come fly with us as we hear into the window fall season and flying in Chinooks over the winter.

We are even gearing up to do some slope Combat.

Here's a video of an awesome day we had last weekend and the maiden flight of the Stingray.

Cheers,
Mike
