Cox 77' F15 c/l plane

My mom and dad bought me this same plane, for Christmas 1977, from the Sears catalogue. I ran it so much I still recall the smell in the basement, lol.

Unfortunately my mom threw the engine out (had it wrapped in a rag in the garage) and I don't remember what happened to the airplane afterwards.

I've been looking for a complete example for years. I did manage to get a not quite complete one last year, that was damaged... but today arrived the complete, undamaged one I just bought from a US seller. Amazing! Even has the correct prop and spinner.

43 years... and I still am excited as ever.

Re: Cox 77' F15 c/l plane

It was the PT 19 for me Andrew. I would have to run it every morning before the school bus came. Mom would say your not flying that, your going to school mister.
I know mom, I just want to hear and smell it run. Got me through the school day!!

Wish I still had some of those old fuel cans I threw away.

Bill

Re: Cox 77' F15 c/l plane

My first plane not powered by rubber bands, was the Cox PT-19. Got it for Christmas '78, and flew it in the summer of '79. I still have it and still fly it on occasion. 41 years and counting!
PS, I have a grey F-15, too.

Re: Cox 77' F15 c/l plane

That is amazing that you can get something that old in mint condition. I'm happy for you, Andrew.

Isn't nostalgia something?

Just this week I was talking to Rome here on RCC, who called me about a 1/2A plane I was selling. It already sold, be we started talking about 1/2A planes and I told him to build a top-flite 1/2A schoolmaster. It was my first nitro powered RC plane as a kid and the more we talked about it, the more I wanted to build another one. I downloaded plans from outerzone about 4 years ago, but did nothing about it. When I got the plans, I had the idea to make it electric, but for the true nostalgia effect, I would have to put a cox babe bee in the nose, right ?

Other planes from my youth I would love to fly again are the Cox Spitfire, and the Top Flite Schoolgirl bipe

Have fun with your F-15 Andrew. And show us pictures of it at the field. I love these posts as they spark forgotten memories of my youth and the wonder of flight

Re: Cox 77' F15 c/l plane

I had the Cox PT19 as a kid as well. Went away one summer and when I came back it as broken...never did find out the full story behind that.

First plane I scratch built was from a MAN full-size foldout plan, a “Between” powered by a Cox Blackwidow .049, which probably went in the trash when I left for university. A couple of years ago I downloaded the plan from Outerzone, laser cut it out and built it, complete with a lightly used BlackWidow from a fellow club member. Flies even better with light radio gear and batteries.

You can always tell the old school flyers, as they stop talking and watch it fly it’s little screaming heart out, then start reminiscing about their 1/2A planes.

Re: Cox 77' F15 c/l plane

Trying to remember my first 1/2A plane, 45 years of cramming other stuff into my brain and gone. Now I want to build a control line plane again.

My second Cox was also the PT19 - but it was already broken up. I bougght it from a school friend for $5, just for the Babe Bee, which went into a balsa plane.

My father never gave me grief over running the engine in the house. Our basement at the time was still unfinished.
