Club build, 8 guys building the same plane from short kits

Our club(Brockville Model Aeronautics Club) has about 30 members and most of them have built models, Richard has been building for seventy years!
Laurie and I had the idea to get as many club members as possible to build a similar plane. I say similar because we are starting out with the same short kit but I've heard there are modifications planned. It will be interesting to see how this all works out.
We have 8 members on board but only 7 short kits as Richard is building his truly from scratch; a remarkable undertaking considering how difficult it is to grow Balsa in Canada.

This thread is for posting progress or assistance when questions are asked.
Feel free to help if you want, or tell us we're doing it wrong.

Or you could get a short kit yourself and build along with us.
The plane is the 45" "Miss Bikini" from RCM in 1969
BalsaWorkbench has the short kit here.
Outerzone has the plans here.

We decided to refer to the plane as the BMAC BKN because the original name seems a bit odd in 2019.

This is my second short kit and I'm amazed at how much is included. The pic shows our full size print with the wood parts around the edges and the electronics on the left which Laurie ordered from HobbyKing.
Laurie also cut the basswood spars you can see along the top. These are required for the short kit as shipped.

Hey, that kinda has the same lines as the Sportster. It has a very appealing look.

Keep this thread updated. Looking forward to seeing the variants that come out of your club build

I'm a complete newbie at building balsa. Look forward to getting my kit and hoping to see lots of pictures. I'm sure I'll be asking lots of Newbie questions.

Mike! I so want to join in with this project.. as I honestly plan on becoming a member soon! Lol wish I could find more time in a week. Anyway I have four planes I’m building at the moment, so probably shouldn’t add a fifth! Haha

That's a good looking airplane! A great project for the club this long winter.

Great Idea to help new modelers get started in building without the cost and complexity of some of the bigger builds .

Looks like a fun project. I would be interested in a short kit. Not sure where to buy. I would be also interested in the sticks and sheeting required if it's not too hard to put together, the balsa locally does not come cheap. I got an os 25 looking for a home.

Re: Club build, 8 guys building the same plane from short kits

Funny I am scratch building a Miss Bikini from scratch as we speak. I had planned to get a short kit from Rob, Until I stumbled across a stack of ribs I'd made sometime in the past. No way I was going to waste a stack of ribs.
