Has anyone flown a Sig Kobra with a .25 two stroke? I have a Royal .25 Schneurle engine and this looks like a nice compact, reasonably priced plane. It calls for a .19 to .35.

Re: Sig Kobra .25 Perfomance

A 25 is the correct size for this plane. You would find a 35 very tight up front and probably hard to balance. Think in terms of balanced weight concept.

Thank you. I'm not looking for a pylon racer either. Just some loops and rolls etc.

Re: Sig Kobra .25 Perfomance

I have one with a GMS 32 in it, plenty of engine. I had a 46 in mine when I started flying it but it was 6 ounces heavier and the plane dropped fast on landing. Putting the 32 in solved all my landing issues and its just as fast. Its a fast plane and I find your turning all the time. Cheers Floyd

Nice! I don't think I'm ready to fly a Kobra yet but I'm thinking maybe a winter 2021/2022 build. We'll see how flying goes this year with my Hobbistar and Tiger 2.

Re: Sig Kobra .25 Perfomance

I'm sure a 25 will be fine. I ran mine on a very well worn OS32 Heli motor. Gobs of power and vertical forever. Had to add some tail weight to counter the heli heatsink head.

Your absolutely right. Don't fly the Kobra unless you know how to fly. And when you do fly it set the control throws very low to start with. Its a small plane with a 45" wing and it does strain your eyes, I made mine black and yellow so I can see it at all times. Cheers Floyd

Yeah it will fly nicely with that. Don't forget that in the days when the kit was designed and a normal engine range for a kit was .19-.35, we weren't talking high performance .35's. A reasonably perky Schneurle .25 will out-turn many of your classic RC .35 engines. A good website for classic/vintage engine info is sceptreflight.

Re: Sig Kobra .25 Perfomance

I took 2 of these kits and made a twin like the F-82 Mustang, powered with 2 OS 40FP motors turning 10x6 APC props.
Also had the Kougar with an OS 40FSR on a tuned pipe.
Very well constructed airplanes, nice to fly as well so I am sure you will enjoy the Kobra.

Thanks everyone. I think I'm going to put the Kobra on my birthday and Christmas list for next year's flying season. It's nice that Sig is still producing balsa kits. Hopefully they keep it up. That "F-82" version would be awesome!
