It has been two years since I started this project. Hope to fly it this summer. There has been lots of Corsair builds in the past so I did not feel like posting since the beginning. I am at a point were I think I have 80% done. Tested the servos and found out my throttle will not work in this setup because it is inverted and my McDaniel glow driver does not work with inverted signal, so I will move the servo to the left side of the plane. Next noticed the rudder and throttle servos slightly moving when only giving input on the elevator and ailerons. Not sure why, but hope it is because of not enough power from the batteries. Willl charge and see. Might have to shop for new batteries. I do have electric retracts too. The engine is a Saito 450R3.

Re: Top Flite ARF Giant Corsair

Very nice! Those engines have a really nice sound in a WWII radial-engined warbird!!

Got to the point of starting to fixture the gear doors. The tail wheel door does not work well as per their setup in the manual. Might have to do as per picture below. Main door is up to me. I have a 6 channel setup for this plane, therefore the main gear doors have to be mechanical. I found on YouTube the setup as the picture below. However I am trying to see if I can come up with something simpler.

Re: Top Flite ARF Giant Corsair

This is an interesting way to activate the gear doors.

It is elegantly simple, but I imagine getting the geometry correct will take a lot of work to calculate the correct linkage position on the gear door/length of the linkage arm.
In the absence of calculations, I suppose trial and error would work, but there would be a lot of fiddling before the set-up is correct for open and closed positions.

Keep us posted on what you decide to do about the doors

Ooooof! Way too many hours trying to figure out the gear door systems. Tail is done but I want to do some changes after reading some threads. Want to extend the tail wheel to lift the tail up. Therefore I will cut the door aft end. Their original spring system did not work for me. As for the main gear doors, nothing yet. I am trying to make something simpler then the previous picture. Simpler said then done. I do have something in mind by now. Will post picture if successful or not. 🤨 Notice the left main gear twice, not extending fully. Not sure why. Perhaps need more battery power. Only temporarily using a NiMH 6V on receiver and 4.8V on the retract controller. Not reassuring. Will research it up.

Uh-Oh! I hope the pilot notices!

I hope you get that sorted out.

As for gear doors, sometimes I wonder if it might be easier to just use a micro-servo to operate the gear doors? I know it depends on the model, but I have been scratching my head trying to think of what to do about my Mosquito gear doors

In my case I have only a 6 channel radio. Reason I am not going with more servos: This is the idea. Seem I have the space to do it. I will find a way to extent the bell crank lever that will strike the gear or perhaps find a longer arm bell cranks and shorten on arm that links the other outer bell crank. One pair will be distanced to superimpose the other linkage because they cross each other. The distance from the forward wheel well wall to the wheel is 5/8 with lots more in the corners. If I need more room I can install a smaller wheel but I do not think it will be necessary. The picture only shows the idea with what I already have in the shop.
