Pylon racing
Pylon racing has always intrigued me, but I’ve never been to a race, nor do I live near enough to where any are (6+hr drive likely).
I’ve found a bit of info about the various classes and some rules. We don’t have space or interest to make a course here. One thing I couldn’t find was anything about any .25 sized engine classes in Canada? What are guys running? Kits available? I have a Jett 25 that needs a home to scream on!!! |

Re: Pylon racing
I am not into pylon racing, but I think pylon racing planes look cool.
I think I have a racing plane you might be interested in. Its a fibreglass fuse, the rest you have to make. If you have a wire-cutter, you can make your own wings. The tail is built from 1/4" (guessing) balsa sheet using the plans provided as a template. I have no idea of the engine size needed, the plans might show it, but I recall looking at the fuse, and to me it looks to be about the same size as my Sportster 20 and that has a .25 engine in it. Let me know if you are interested and I will dig it out.

Re: Pylon racing
Nathan
We now race electric formula one airplanes at the Orangeville R/C Flyers. I have flown pylon racing airplanes for over 35 years. You are looking for Quickie 500 airplane to put a Jett 25 on, I have something here you might be interested in, it is a arf built, with some assembly and has to be covered. Here is some pictures of the Quickie 500 kit and some E F 1's. You can send me a PM any time for information. Also check out the NMPRA web site, lots of info on there. Ken |

I bought a Great Planes proud bird to convert to nitro but I wish I would have bought the Eflight Shoestring. It looks like an easier bird to convert with no plastic fairings. Wholesale hobbies has 1 in stock. They are great to deal with and free shipping over $100 with probably a $20 oversized fee.
Just another option I thought I would share. Good luck with the hunt. |

Re: Pylon racing
I think the classes were using 40 and 15 size motors but that was many years ago . The 40’s had three classes starting with Quickie 500 , FAI and Formula One , all with their own set of motor-airframe rules .

Re: Pylon racing
Still have your .56LX I hope?
There just aren't more powerful or more ruggedly built sport engines. They don't come at import prices but they are a great example of "you get what you pay for". My 15 year old SJ .50 tached 17,390 on an MA 10-6 on the stand in February. I acquired a well-used SJ40 recently, it was bolted to the nose of a well-used Q500 racer. It turns the same MA 10-6 about 16,300, which is faster than they are supposed to when new, and is BTW faster than a Webra Speed .60 turns the same prop. Can't kill 'em. Well, if you can, you should buy cheaper engines.

predecessor to the 56LX. I run a clipped 9x9 on the 60, makes for a handful of a launch but doable for sure! clipped 9x9 runs about 16500 rpm but pulls it!!

Thanks for the info so far! I’m more on the research phase for now, suffering from the pandemic blues and looking for ways to have even more fun than I ought to, and certinally more than the wife thinks I should have! But that Jett has been sitting for too long, if nothing else it’ll have to run on the test stand this summer just to hear it 🙂
