Glow plug extension

Looking for info on a glow plug extension. Running a OS Surpass 91 4 stroke in and inclosed cowl. I need to run a extension to get outside of the cowl. Now from what I have read with the Surpass it used a recessed plug, so not all extensions will work??? I have looked at Kavan-Revolution -Dubro-MPI, and others and it seems that every review is different. Could use a little help with picking one that will work with out breaking the bank.

Re: Glow plug extension

I would think a long-necked glow driver for helis or ground pounders may work, but you also have the options of remote adapter or driver.

I have been using remote adapters on all my cowled 4-strokes except for the Saito 100 powered Super Bolt as the head protrudes enough to allow access. All others use a remote adapter similar to this:

There are also so many inexpensive onboard glow drivers now you should easily find something you can use. You can set throttle point to turn on and an on/off switch for ground safety.

The first pic shows the adapter clipped onto the plug of a 91 Surpass. The second and third are a similar setup with the Gemini 160 twin and glow socket in the cockpit.

Re: Glow plug extension

No way to get to the glow plug once the cowl is on. Have to go the remote route, is any one better than any one else? And any truth to the Surpass having a recessed glow plug that will make some work and others not? I will have to order one , one way or another , but won't be ordering any thing from China, ordered some things from Banggood and now 46 days and still a no show.

Re: Glow plug extension

I prefer the black rubber type shown in the pics. Internal spring lock so you pull on the wire to install and release over the tip. Sometimes you have to cut back the boot a bit to allow for full clamp, but that never seems to hinder performance.

I usually pick a few up each year at the Toledo Show in early April. Unfortunately cancelled this year so hope I have enough. I get the plug end separately from the socket and fab them up myself.

Great Hobbies has them here so you can order them domestic:
