Sig Kadet Mark 2 Engine Choices?

Hello, I have recently acquired a Sig Kadet Mark 2 kit. I’m now looking at some 4 stroke engines to go with the plane. Threre are two engines that I’m looking at right now. The Saito FA 40a, and the O.S. 56a.

My questions are: Is the Saito a bit small/weak, and for the O.S. ,is it maybe too powerful/big for the Mark2?

Does someone have experience with those plane/ engine combinations?
Maybe there are better choices?. But I would prefer not to use a two stroke engine because of the mess( I have an O.S. 46 La and an Evolution .46).

Thanks

Daniel

The 56 would probably fine in it. I'm running an OS52 four stroke in an old Sig Komander and it flies great.

Re: Sig Kadet Mark 2 Engine Choices?

I fly with a OS56 Alpha now in one of my planes and the power is similar to a OS70 Surpass but much lighter. I think the Saito 40 would be small and the plane would need nose weight to balance out. The OS 52 Surpass would be a better choice or a 40-46 sized 2-Stroke until you learn how to fly. 4-Strokes can be expensive to repair when crashed. Cheers Floyd

Re: Sig Kadet Mark 2 Engine Choices?

Any of the engines that you mention would be fine. The Saito 40 would be ideal as you will turn an 11x5 or 11x6 prop and will be very economical to run as well as running supreme out of the box. The OS 52 or 56 will pull a heavier plane.

Re: Sig Kadet Mark 2 Engine Choices?

Hello, thanks all for responding.
It seems I’m still left with both choices
If I wanted to experiment with floats and retracts in the future, would the FA 40a still be adequate or is the O.S a safer bet?
I have also thought of increasing the wingspan a few inches to bring down the wing loading a bit. (It’s 18oz/sq inch if kept to 5 lb).

Go with the 56 if floats might enter the picture.

Re: Sig Kadet Mark 2 Engine Choices?

Either engine will fly the plane well. IF flying with floats you may find the 56 to be the better choice. Using the 56, remember you have throttle control. You don't have to fly "balls to the wall" all the time.

Re: Sig Kadet Mark 2 Engine Choices?

Definitely go with the 56. The saito 40 is under powered for that plane

Re: Sig Kadet Mark 2 Engine Choices?

Thanks again for everyone’s input. I have been doing more research online, and there was no clear winner. So I’m going to try the Saito first.
