No preplanning, no drawings. Just sat down and started building! Wing is from an Eagle 2 trainer, horizontal stabilizer is from a 4 star 20 (Thanks to Mad Mike! .Theres lots of scrap balsa and parts from about three other airplanes but I can’t remember... Pondering putting the engine on it, but I think I’ll pass. Thanks anyway Max! I’ll use it on my next build. Looks like it’ll fly... Now to track down a good hill to chuck it off!

Re: Franken-glider

Interesting!

I like seeing different things tried. On the slope there will be a delicate balance between a wind that is strong enough to support it and a wind that you won't be able to penetrate due to the high lift, high drag wing.

Don't give up on the power pod just yet! It looks promising to me.

Re: Franken-glider

Hey Jon.

It looks right. As long as the CG is right it should fly.

If you don't have much luck when you chuck it off a hill, may I suggest on the second attempt you chuck it off a cliff??

Re: Franken-glider

Off the slope is to me what it looks like it could be best at and indeed the steeper the slope the better. It takes a pretty efficient glider to pick up lift off a shallow slope regardless of how strong the wind is.

It will fly for sure! We slope soared a Kadet Seniorita out here once with the prop off. It had a bit of trouble getting out away from the hill very far because it was a high drag bird compared to an actual glider. No shortage of lift just felt a bit like a parachute! We also tried slope soaring a Sig Wonder once and it showed great promise but the flight was short due to the pilot forgetting to turn the receiver switch on!

This is a great way to use up left over plane parts, have some fun and you learn a bunch in the process.
