When I checked the initial weight before glassing, I was using 2 S55000's and the CG was very close. And there is still the forward bay of the fuselage that is available for the battery's. Right now it's closed off, but if I need more nose-weight, I can pop the bay open. That will allow my lipos to come another 2" forward into the nose.

Your weight and weight gain on the glassing came out real good so far.
Keep up the great work and postings.
That is exactly what I have done.

Here are the two "ugly" spinners I have now. I have three P-51 spinners, as well as a single "cone" spinner.

Neither looks good on the model. The good news is I have four of these spinners with nice aluminum backplates taht I am sure they would be happy to donate

Here is spinner #1

P-51 spinner; TOO LONG

Here is spinner #2, the "cone" spinner. TOO POINTY

This morning I measured the aluminum spinner back-plate, particularly the groove, and modified an STL file to give me the correct shape and included the back-plate groove.

Printing

Done

Comparison of the three spinners

That looks right!

10 grams lighter than the P-51 spinner and 5 grams lighter than the "cone" spinner

Re: My 78" Mosquito Project; She's coming along now!

Guys. Some bad news. I think I am going to cry….

After printing the second spinner, I installed it and took a photo for “show and tell” on this thread.
Next step was to be cutting the notches for the props and the spinner mounting screw.

But that is not going to happen.

Right now I am devastated.

Here is the “show and tell” photo. Notice anything?

How about when I stand way back and lower to the flight-attitude of the model?

Uh-oh. This is NOT GOOD.
But I suppose its better to find this now and fix it rather than be surprised on take-off on its maiden flight!

Now to assess the problem further, I cut two ply sticks 17” in diameter and put a hole dead-center.

Here is what it looks like from the side

Top view

I didn’t build the nacelles, and I am not looking to lay blame. When I got this model in its 1/2 built state, it had no plans, and handling each wing one-at-a-time, it was not evident there was a thrust problem. Now that the motors are installed and the spinners attached, the problem becomes very evident. Oh well. That’s the way it goes sometimes.

The only way to do this right is to cut the front of each nacelle off just forward of the wings and reposition them so that both motors have the same thrust line when looked from the side and the top. This means the port nacelle has to come up to the same position of the starboard nacelle. After that, both nacelles have to be canted outwards. Since the port nacelle will be coming off, I will incorporate the outward cant at the same time as when I bring it up. For the starboard nacelle, I might try just shimming the starboard motor mounts first and see if I can’t get the side-thrust better aligned. If not, then it will also have to be cut off and re-positioned.

And just think. This morning I was jumping for joy knowing that the mozzie was “maiden ready”. Now its “so close, and yet so far”….. Hoo boy…..
