Being a balsa guy, when my student showed up with the Debonair, I thought my God... but we started it up and I took off - my mind changed instantly. Very good trainer for sure!

I think I will build something similar with my 7 yr old when he wants to try flying. I still have a stash of 4 and 6mm Coroplast.

Ive wanted to build one for a while but i found most spad to the bone plans call for 2mm coro and all i can find locally is 4mm. anybody now a source of 2mm in canada? Also wanted to try combat with them for sure.

the 4 mil is ok to work with.. if not better.. the pic in the previous post is all done with 4 mil.. she came out at about 8lbs AUW about 70 inch span , thunder tigre 46 nitro , dual nickle batteries.. pretty much run of the mill stuff..

I built a Spadet a couple of years ago, still flying it,I have over 200 flights on it, running a .46 MFA glow, I built mine with a foam core wing.

do you have any pics of the construction.. particularly interested in your method of securing the engine to the cora plast..

I just drilled and tapped my firewall and screwed it through the downspout tubing and coroplast. I never even thought of taking any pictures when I was building.

My SPAD is the Saturday Night Special, coroplast wing over foam, 4mm Coroplast tail and plastic downspout for a Fuse.
In order to get the firewall built and mounted I cut it from an old plastic cutting board from the kitchen. Cut to the exact inside size and shape of the plastic downspout fuse. Screw through the sides and bottom of the fuse into the firewall with 8 #5 x 1/2" wood screws (2 per side)

I have all the material and plans to build a DOPPELSCHTICK, an F-82 style twin fuselage Stick designed for a couple of 25 to 40's.
This thread has rekindled a project long on the back burner.

I hold the engine mount onto the cutting board firewall with #6 socket head screws that are predrilled with a pilot hole the same size as the shank of the #6 screws.

This mounting system works great for wood firewalls as well. I have found that, in a severe contact with the ground, the screws will pull out instead of breaking the crankcase.

right now i'm working on a super decathlon 120 (80 inch wing)
I'm also doing some intensive test for new wing construction as far my 2mm stock is going low and harder to find.
