Hi Gary and Andrew,

I've been reading some of your comments. Sounds like you guys know a thing or two about about a thing or two.

I just got into this hobby in the midle of last summer. Started out with an Eagle II .40 size aircraft that did the job for only a short while. I'm getting into larger projects now. I jsut finished scratch building a Great Planes Extra 300S .60 but I realize I need gas powered planes. I just bought my first Quadra 35 from a fellow club member and am looking forward to putting into the next project.

My father is a highly skilled machinist from Europe and since I've started flying these planes he's been sugesting that he and I build an engine from scratch. I used to work as an automotive technician and have a keen interst in engine design even though I specialized in drivetrain. I think we should be able to come up with a working design. I may have to ask for your input from time to time if we ever get started.

Gary, I think I short circuited my keyboard checking out the website with the 25% scale Merlin engine. Just couldn't stop the drool flowing. Look forward to reading more from you two.

Cheers guys,

Engine building is so cool - and there is so much to talk about... I have some good books (most are quite old) on model engine design and construction and there was a great magazine published (no longer) dealing with model IC engine design (Strictly I. C.) that I have all copies of. Much of it is like an engine building bible! So much info... if there are any specific topics you care to discuss, please ask and I will do my best to help.
